Nothing new, just said Merriman would be a possibility. I hate hearing the same thing over and over again!

I dunno, not sure...but what do you think of Merriman? Do you think he's a possiblity?

Seriously, if anyone on ESPN actually had an original thought, they would have a stroke! "Umm, I think that the cowboys will draft a player in the upcoming draft, probably a player that will help them." Thanks for the great reporting there Mort.

Quite possibly he is not an impossibility.

all this talk about merriman reminds me of all the talk last year about stephen jackson. it will be a big let down across the board if we somehow manage to pass on merriman or trade down and allow somebody else to snatch him in front of us. then jerry will say we had our eye on erasmus the whole time. deja vu all over again

I have that exact same feeling. Besides that, I think that Ware and Blackstock could both end up being more productive players in the league than Merriman.

This just in from ESPN Headquarters:

The Dallas Cowboys want to improve their team. They hope to win more games next year. They currently have two 1st round picks in the upcoming draft. This leads us to believe one of two things.

1. They will either use those picks to select players that they want or...

2. They will trade one or both of those picks in attempt to manuever up or down the board and acquire a player they really like or gain other draft picks for this year or next.

They might draft DE Shawne Merriman from Maryland. They might not, however. They may select WR Mike Williams of USC. But they may not. Some other teams might select these players as well. We expect Dallas to try and improve their football team for the future via the draft.

Bill Parcells is one of those coaches who likes to win. He does not like to lose. For this reason, we expect him to try to make his team play better and win more games. He believes that if you have better, more talented players, you have a better chance of beating other football teams. He is known as a coach who likes to move the ball on offense. He often likes his team to run the ball in an attempt to score. He also likes his team to pass the ball. On defense, he prefers his players to try to stop the other team from scoring. He also likes when his defense forces a turnover.

For these reasons, ESPN would like to report that Dallas hopes be a good team this season and win more games than they lose... and that Keyshawn "the troublemaker" Johnson has just assualted his wife while drunkdriving on the wrong side of the road, wearing a Cowboy hat and screaming "Ye-Haw!!", under a suspended license with 12 grams of heroin in the vehicle and a loaded semi-automatic firearm under the seat... Jon Gruden was found battered and duct taped naked in the trunk... we think.

WOW, did Mark Shlereth or Sal Paliantonio write that? It doesn't sound like Salisbury, but it could be Dan Patrick.

Hahaha...you know, I was going to post another smart-aleck remark like, "Who's Merriman?"

I just find it funny that as it gets closer to draft day, we here at Cowboyszone have belaboured and beaten the horse dead on every angle possible.

The posts have become increasingly sarcastic with underlying tension and shorter fuses. We all need to open the door, step outside and leave the cabin fever behind. Remember what it was like to gallivant in the tall grass of the meadows, licking lollipops, flying a kite?

By the way, who is Merriman?

Now, now, let's give ESPN a break, after all they have to present to a broader audience than the hardcore football fans which comprise 99.9% of the membership of this website.

Part of their audience may be learning about the existence of the draft for the first time from this very broadcast. Others may be returning from overseas and this is their first chance to catch up on football news.

Yes, it sucks for us to hear the same old thing over and over again, but just imagine what it must feel like to say it, knowing you are repeating the same old news! Sometimes, when there's no news to tell, it just makes the audience feel better if people are just chatting about their team. That's why we come to this board after all.
