In less than a month, the 2012 NFL Draft kicks off. 29 days to be exact. We're now entering that frenzied pre-draft stage where one rumor chases the next, one wilder than the other. Today one of these rumors reached us via Twitter from an otherwise fairly reputable source, The Huddle Report. THR is well-known in draft circles for their post-draft ranking of the best mock drafts and big boards but more recently have quietly gained a reputation as draft analysts in their own right. Here's what they tweeted today:
The Huddle Report@TheHuddleReport
ESCH: Hearing Cowboys are talking to Browns about moving from 14 up to 4. Target would be LSU CB Morris Claiborne.
Coming just a day after Jerry Jones hinted that the Cowboys may be more interested in trading down than trading up, this seems like an odd tweet. But Jones did explain at length that the Cowboys are interested in 'premium positions' like CB, LB, DE and DT. But moving up from 14th to the number four spot?

Now I like this, not for possibility of moving up for clairborne cb but cowboys are exploring all avenues of moving up and down. So, Sdogo what would we have to give up to move all way up to 4th pick?

It would cost as much to move from #14 to #4 as it did #6 to #2.
NO THANKS.

Would it cost this and next year's first rounders?

Id honestly say our first second and 1 and 3 next year. Or throw in some Players

Basing it off what we have seen in the past just with draft picks.
It's likely to take our 1st, 2nd and 2nd next year depending on how many picks we want to give up for this years pile.
Dallas may, get away with 1st, 2nd and 4th this year, 3rd next year. That is probably a best case scenario. Either way, the 1st and 2nd this year IMO have to be a part of it.

Color me extremely skeptical of this one.

The only way I see this happening if they felt they are only one player away which we technically aren't. Center,a pass rusher and then a db.
But im still a little surprised with this rumor. Knew we'd have some crazy ones but still shocking

Especially considering the quality depth at the position.

Why on earth would we even consider doing this? Unless we traded Mike Jenkins as either part of the deal or at a later date.

I'm being told that Dallas and the browns have talked about possible trades but it was about the 14 to 22 not about the 4th spot. The browns will like to trade back but they would also like to trade up and have a late top 10 and a pick in the teens

This is the one I'm thinking may happen. A Dallas trade down with Cleveland. The Browns take the RB and QB.
Dallas just screws it up - again.
Can I trade Mike Jenkins for a number two in the process?

Doubt this, as trades into the top 5 have been very rare due to outrageous contracts. I realize the CBA has changed that though.
But when you're at #14 you're within range to jump up for a blue chip player. I don't put it past Jerry. He's stated many times he likes to bet on quality. He tends to focus on what he gets rather than what he loses.
Some similar trades...
2009
Cleveland (5) and Jets (17)
Cleveland's 1st for Jets 1st, 2nd, Abe Elam, Kenyon Coleman, and Brett Ratliff
2005
Oakland (7) and Minnesota
Oakland's 1st, 7th and Napoleon Harris for Randy Moss
2004
Cleveland (6) and Detroit (7)
Cleveland's 1st for Detroit's 1st and 2nd
2003
Chicago (4) and Jets (13 and 22)
Chicago's 1st for Jets 1st (a), 1st (b) and 4th
Arizona (6) and New Orleans (17 and 18)
Arizona's 1st, 2nd, and 4th for New Orleans 1st (a), 1st (b), and 2nd
What's interesting is how frequently Cleveland trades. They've traded their 1st in 2011, 2009, 2007, 2006, and 2004.

2012
Browns (4) to Cowboys (14), Mike Jenkins, and Felix Jones. EVEN.

Morris Claiborne in my view is a heck of a player, great CB with WR hands. I think the cost is a bit steep when talking of moving from 14 to 4 or 5 to get him thus I would not do it. However I will say I would love to have him just not at that cost

I don't see that as even. You have two guys in a contract year with one coming off of injuries and surgery. You would probly have to still add a pick.
