as a mailman i always had a couple customers who got the weekly paper, and it will shock everyone (i am sure) to find out i sometimes took a peek at not only the centerfold cheerleader, but also an article or two. i subscribed today for this year, and i was curious how many of you do also. i think its a worthwhile read, and when we win the Super Bowl they should be prized collector's items in years to come...
i also bought last year's thanksgiving day game guide or whatever they call it, since it was henson's first start as a cowboy, and when he wins a couple super bowls for us that will also be a collector's item. it was only $5 so i figured what the heck...
i also bought the cheerleader calender, a replica roy williams jersey, and a couple other items. is this a case of impulse buying, or do i just have the feeling 2005 will be a special year...?

I've been a subscriber for over 25 years. In fact, I became a subscriber when the publication first started whenever that was.

Since 1984
Used to be until I found out I could get the bulk of the content online in a much more timely manner. I did enjoy it for many years though.

My first edition had a pair of rookies on the cover: Randy White and Bob Breunig (1975).
I dropped it sometime in the earlly-to-mid 1990s.
The writing was pretty good in the old days with guys like Carlton Stowers ... but began declining in the 1980s with Jarrett Bell. When Jerry bought the team, he brought in a bunch of new people, but I don't think it was any better.
I guess I got tired of it becoming more and more of a propaganda piece. Pure fluff.

My folks bought me a subscription as a Christmas gift in 77 when I was 10. I tell myself every year that it's the last year I'll subscribe but I can't seem to break away even though it's dated material.

I was a faithful subscriber starting in the late 70's I believe. Living out of state, there wasn't anywhere to go to get the info on the Cowboys. Along came cable TV and that helped some but only news in general not specific or detailed for the Cowboys. Then Al Gore invented the internet and it was like a whole new world opened up before my eyes. I could get the the same info faster. And my Cowboys news - reading articles written by Dallas writers the same day was a dream come true. It was all Cowboys all the time!!! The first few months I still got the weekly but soon realized it was a waste of money for me. By the time it arrived, that info was old and newer info had already been out. Back then I didn't know how much the Dallas writers really sucked BTW!!! So I allowed my subscription to expire. It was a sad day in that regard but a much happier one overall.
Sorry for the boring story. ;)

I was for a long time.
All throughout college.
But with the Internet now, its really not worth it.

I used to subscribe, but nowadays by the time you get it, the news is already stale. That's my problem with subscribing to anything in print these days, really.

I subscribed to it for several years and it was like turning a screw in my heart to let the subscription expire. Claiming to be a die-hard Cowboys fan and you let your Dallas Cowboys Weekly subscription expire? Blasphemy!
When it comes down to it though, the pre-game analysis was trash. The week you play the Redskins, you'd expect to have some sort of article going into detail about where the rivalry started, interesting facts about the rivalry, etc.
It didn't really provide any insight into how the team operates, locker-room stories. Its player profiles were horribly dry. The photography was nothing spectacular.
After several years of subscribing, I really didn't know much more about my team than when I started. It's a shame -- I'm willing to spend the money on a periodical that provides more insight, but there's nothing out there that beats anything I can get on the internet.

Me too - I'd get the damn thing 2 weeks late every week.
Then came the internet that Al Gore invented so I unsubscribed.

Back in the 1980's and early 1990's it was a great source of info. The local papers had very little Cowboys coverage and what they did have was negative. Before the 1984 Dallas Washington game in Dallas, the VA Pilot sports page had a big drawing of Texas Stadium smoking with arrows sticking out of it. Now the DCW seems dated, but back then it was the greatest thing going. I loved Ask Tex.

first, thanks for all the input! its a little cowboys trivia i didn't know much about - how the rag got started, how its evolved, etc. we'll see how i like it, but i'm sure i'll learn one or two things and if i do its worth it.
and Jarv, i didn't know i had a cowboys cheerleader on my mail route! was it your centerfold, or the cowboys weekly with a cheerleader centerfold - there is a distinction! also, are you sure that was drool...?
Subscribed since '86 and with the advent of internet coverage, dropped it this year. I agree that much of the Weekly is fluff, as someone pointed out.

I subscribed to it last year. "fluff" was used to describe it, I would have to agree. Also, This board has tons more real Cowboy info that that thing does.

I subscribe and will continue to for the simple reason that if I can pay for that swill at the DMN, I can at least subsidize the Cowboys in some small way via the "team paper".
The only columnist I read religiously in DCW is Dale.

Not boring and I too was a subscriber untill Uncle Al invented the internet (God bless him) Can you imagine what he could have done if brother Jeb hadn't hood winked the election and he had become President. Why we might have 3d football or virtual cowboys games in our on house ala Holgraphic N.F.L.
