Highest a Guard has been drafted??

All the talk about the Chiefs drafting DeCastro got me thinking about who the highest guard to be drafted was and which pick was used on him.

I guess you can say that Leonard Davis was the highest to be drafted but they did that with every intention of moving him to OT.

So who was the highest? Was there ever one in the top 10?

I think the rookie pay scale will effect the way teams look at the draft now and really take the BPA instead of the BPA at a premier position in the top 10. I just hope it isn't this year and Decastro drops into our laps!!

Kind of makes you wonder if teams just couldn't justify paying a guard that much money.

Well he was considered by many at the time to be the best OG of all-time and made several All-Pro teams on his way to the HOF.

If one could guarantee DeCastro is the second coming of Hannah then he'd be worth a top 5 pick this year, too.

Bill Fralic was drafted as a OT where he played in college.

Davis was picked with the number 11 overall?? I thought he taken around the 15-17 range. thanks for the info!

Edit: He was selected with the 11th overall pick but he plays OT

some of those picks were college Tackles drafted as tackles and then move inside when they could not hack it as tackles; like Gallery.

PURE guards- much less common.

But DeCastro is constantly compared to Hutchinson, probably the best guard of the last 10 years.

If LA as a college senior was in this years draft he would be a top 5 pick. But once again he would be looked at more for his ability to play tackle.

Logged into this thread to say just that. A lot of guards taken that once were considered tackles. Where was Bigg drafted? I think he was a #2 as well.
