I found this review of GIMP 2.7.2 and it talks about a few interesting features of GIMP. GIMP 2.7.x is development and not considered production. Since GIMP 2.8 is around the corner and GIMP 2.7 is basically what you will get in GIMP 2.8, this is relevant.

The full review with several features discussed (but not all) is here (http://libregraphicsworld.org/blog/entry/hands-on-gimp-2-7-2-review), but I specifically want to post the video about the new Cage Transform Tool. Very nice!

I plan to update to 2.8 when it comes out. I'm running 2.6 now.

I have Gimp and Photoshop. I like Gimp a little in terms of simplicity and use it instead of PS based on what I'm doing.

Gimp 2.8 has been officially released (http://www.gimp.org/). That said, if you're using Windows you will have to wait until someone supplies a 2.8 compiled binary for Windows. Sometimes that happens quick, sometimes it doesn't.

Considering this is a huge release, I would guess is will come sooner rather than later.

The Windows binaries for Gimp 2.8 (http://www.gimp.org/downloads/) are now available.
