A TE with the 11th pick and player that quit on his team. I guess we could do worse.

I guess you would like to have Mcnabb dance all around us and not pick up one of the top DE's in the game right now.

Oh and I guess you would like to pass on possibly the next TO without the baggage?

Lets take our chances and draft a DE that wont perform, we're pretty used to that.

A guy with a drug problem is not worth a 1st rounder.
Next TO without the baggage and without the speed. Alot of teams have him as a TE/H-Back to say he has no chinks in his armor is being naive. He's a good prospect, I'm not denying that. He really doesn't compare to any player in the NFL right now other than possibly a bigger Micheal Clayton. If he was our pick I hope thats the case.

Everything fine but......I would rather have Howard.

let's do it!! I, too, would prefer Howard, but frankly I'll take anyone I know can get to the QB at DE.

Abraham doesn't have a drug problem. He's got a DWI. He wrecked a tree.
I don't know if I trust his work-ethic, but at the same time, he's a premier pass-rusher who knows Parcell's and has been getting jacked around by the Jets fro years. I wouldn't mind getting him.

I think I'd rather get Howard (and a third) for our 2nd and a drop from 11 to 16 (it is 16 right?)

Of course that blows any chance of Williams. I'd love Williams here but I just don't see him getting past the 5,6,7 spots.

Can you post the articles on the teams that have Williams as a tight end?

I'd be happy with that.

Purcells already has brought in a couple of players who quit on their teams (Glenn at NE and Keyshawn at TB).

Howard please, not Abraham. And if we don't get Williams, I'm not going to go
throw myself off of a bridge or anything. It would be nice, but he won't be
there at 11.

I second that. I would much rather see Howard as a Cowboy.

Just curious but Darren Howard has never been to the pro-bowl right? and while he may be a good player I don't understand why anyone would prefer him over John Abraham.

I guess the fact that Abraham didn't rush himself back and play at less than 100% for the Jets in the playoffs is the reason for the negative vibes.

Given the choice i'll take Abraham over Howard. Now that does not mean that I wouldn't be happy if howard is a boy, I think he could help us tremendously.

Honestly, I would just as soon draft the next great pass rusher this year!

Howard to me is a better fit and value, not that I would mind Abraham as long as we are not raped in the bargain.

I wouldnt complain because Mike Williams is one of the guys I'd most like to see us get, and Abraham is a dominant pass rusher...but there is major risk/reward with him as he is almost assuredly in the substance abuse program and another strike might see him suspended

Bullocks in the 2nd rd wouldnt hurt my feelings either, though I'm not sure he's worth the 42nd pick...later in the 2nd seems like better value...then again if we take at 42 and he wins the starting FS job, nobody will care where he was picked

I'd be more than happy with this scenario... BUT... Mike Williams at #11 seems like a MAJOR stretch. I will be shocked if it happens.

Secondly... I'd be MUCH happier if the next option was:

11th - WR Mike Williams

20th - We could use this pick on anything; OLB/DE Demarcus Ware, OT Jammal Brown, or OLB/S Thomas Davis. Hell, you even could make a luxury pick at that point and take a Matt Jones or a Heath Miller if you really wanted too... it also leaves open a great possibility for trading down 5-6 picks or so and getting some extra picks. possibly, even a second or third to replace the 2nd you used on Howard. Then you end up with Bullocks again!)

42nd - Trade to Saints for Howard

that would be adding three starter from day one- I would not have a problem with that draft-

although I do believe an untested impact end can be had at 20 like Ware or james.

I also like canadaboys idea-

nice having two first rounders aint it

NFL steroid program could also use upgrade
John Czarnecki / FOXSports.com

There really isn't anything the NFL can do about ridding its game of steroid cheaters until it can convince union boss Gene Upshaw to ratchet up the testing procedures — make the rules tougher and on a par with the Olympics — and put the new language in a new collective bargaining agreement.

The revelations out of Carolina stunned many in the league that several Panthers actually used steroid creams — the kinds associated with baseball's Barry Bonds — and injected stanozolol the week of their Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots in Houston.

Yesterday NFLPA Exec Director Gene Upshaw reportedly said of the current league steroid testing program, "If we have to make changes, we are willing to do that." (Nick Wass / Getty Images)
Several of the creams can't be detected by the current NFL test because they leave a person's system within an hour or two after application. Now, these creams aren't as effective as actually injecting growth hormones or testosterone into one's body, but they can strengthen muscles and build muscle mass. Stanozolol, a highly potent anabolic steroid, takes about a week to clear an athlete's system.

Upshaw, who never used steroids as a player, has always been supportive of keeping the game clean on the field. However, it takes time to clear these hurdles with the union because there are legal issues involved, primarily privacy.

For example, two seasons ago four Oakland Raiders were found guilty of using THG when their urine samples were re-tested. That entire situation actually took several months before Commissioner Paul Tagliabue ruled that the four Raiders would be fined at the beginning of the 2004 season. Tagliabue had to reach an agreement with Upshaw and the union. In the end, two of the four players involved were out of the league and never paid a fine.

The NFL Players Association should want to strengthen the testing procedures to rid its game of anabolic steroids and growth hormones. It would also help if more players — up from ten — were tested randomly, thus putting more fear in the locker room. In fact, it would be a great move to test the entire locker room sporadically every month.

The downside for the clubs is the money involved in testing. More stringent tests would cost more money. The downside for the league is also accepting the fact that certain cheaters will always beat the system because the drug makers are forever ahead of even the best testing procedures.

But football, for the most part, has been pretty clean on the major-league level. There have been more problems with steroid abuse on the high school level than in the NFL.

Despite the revelations in Carolina, the NFL firmly believes its testing system is working and the Panthers involved are an aberration, not the tip of a bigger steroid scandal. Only time will tell on that last comment.

More from The Czar

There apparently is concern in Detroit over the future of WR Charles Rogers (two consecutive seasons ended prematurely due to collarbone injuries) for the Lions to entertain some of the draft's top receivers. However, they are apparently looking at former USC WR Mike Williams as a tight end. Some personnel people believe that Williams will be a 245-250-pound player in the NFL and that he doesn't have the quickness to be a wide receiver.

The Dolphins will draft a running back, but they don't want to do it at the second overall spot.

What's great about the draft is that this is the time of year when teams deliberately misled reporters in order to float rumors about their possible selections. Well, the best one this week is the one about the Vikings not selecting a receiver to replace Randy Moss with the seventh overall selection. The rumor goes on to say the Vikes are really hoping to take a running back, believing that Michael Bennett will always be hurt and that Onterrio Smith is a time-bomb waiting to happen because he's in the NFL drug program. Mewelde Moore, the Vikings' third running back, was in coach Mike Tice's doghouse last season for failing to leave the trainer's room.

Rumors & analysis .

The debate in San Diego is that coach Marty Schottenheimer loves QB Philip Rivers and that GM A.J. Smith wants to stick with current starter Drew Brees. Regardless, it is a great situation because some teams don't have one good quarterback while San Diego may have two.

The owners and the union made some progress on labor talks this week in Pittsburgh, but the biggest hurdle to completing a collective bargaining extension is the rich owners accepting a deal in which they pay more into the players' salary-cap pool. Until that is resolved, these talks are going nowhere.

Put down Houston GM Charley Casserly, who spent much of his NFL career with the Redskins, who believes baseball will succeed in the nation's Capitol despite the popularity of the Orioles. "Camden Yards is simply too far away for the people of Northern Virginia," Casserly said.

Terrell Owens may deserve more money from the Eagles, but club President Joe Banner has never been coerced into renegotiating a contract after one season ever before. If Banner folds on this one, he will lose credibility with his locker room. That is more important than T.O. Right?

The Redskins are definitely looking for a cornerback in the draft and Adam "Pac-Man" Jones of West Virginia seems to be their guy. However, there have been some negative rumblings around the league about Jones in the last couple of weeks.

The Bucs are leaning toward taking a receiver with the fifth overall spot and hoping that Michigan's Braylon Edwards is still on the board.

blah blah blah...this crpa is old

Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice are arguably the two best players in NFL history at their positions...how much did speed play into their games?

Mike Williams is an exceptional talent that toally dominated his competition at a major university...he's gonna be a very good player

without even reading everyone else's answers, the answer here is no i would not be happy. we don't need to spend an early pick on FS IMO, and we need to trade down from 11 for extra picks. who will start at WR if we draft Williams? Parcells' buddies Keyshawn and Glenn have given him no reason whatsoever to limit their playing time - when would Williams get on the field? i would draft a player at 11 who will start and fill a hole, such as RT, DE, LB. this draft is deep at WR, and we have no glaring need there.

Actually these picks would freaking thrill me. We answer the huge question which is our free safety position next year with Bullocks who is in my opinion the best FS in the draft. (Rolle will not be a FS regardless of what people here will tell you) This also gives us one of the best defensive lines in the league. We also get a wide receiver that could very well produce for the next ten years. He is not necessarily the deep threat we may be looking for, but someone witht the talent of MW you can honestly not pass on...Have good and get give
