Per Adam Schefter former Cowboys cornerback Terrance Newman officially has agreed to terms with the Bengals.
Best of luck, hopefully he plays some lockdown defense on 3 of the 4 NFC East opponents they face in 2012.

Good for him. He's a talented CB if you can afford to limit him to ~750 snaps in a season. More than that, and his legs just don't hold up at this point in his career. I still wonder what our defense would have looked like last year if we'd drafted a Newman/Jenkins replacement somewhere in the second or third round and given him 300 snaps or so to work his way into the nickel this year.

Cornerback Terence Newman‘s deal with the Bengals is for one year, according to a league source.
Newman, a nine-year veteran of the Dallas Cowboys, was released this offseason. In 2011, Newman collected 53 tackles and four interceptions with one returned for a touchdown.

If he's just getting a one year deal that seems to be a sign that his career is just about over.

One Year, 1.5 mil is my guess.
I doubt he had many suitors, thus not much leverage with the Bungals.
Fun fact, the Bengals invited one other player to visit before the 2003 draft and had they not taken Carson Palmer, Terence Newman would've been their # 1 pick overall.

He's a part-time CB. I'm surprised even the Bengals had room on their roster for him, honestly. Unless the cupboard is really bare at CB, why put in a vet who can only really play half- or two-thirds of a season, at best? Newman showed last year that he can still play at a very high level for a period of time, but he just can't handle the reps of a full NFL season. That's pretty much the definition of a progress-stopper, unless you really have nobody on your roster you're looking to develop.

Our defense would've looked amazing. We would've won 10+ games.
With the right guy there in the rookie spot, it would have been interesting.
Newman's legs were clearly shot, but our safety play really dropped off at the end of the year, too. I wonder if Ryan didn't introduce more material in the last quarter of the season as we were gearing up for the stretch run and it backfired on us. I can't get past some of the blown coverages in the first Giants game, for example. A lot of those were on our safeties, and with Elam in the lineup, I would have expected us to be getting beat physically from time to time, but not so much mentally. Frustrating.
Either way, though, we still need a 4th CB to develop. Nobody's talking about it much, but it should be a relatively high priority from the second round on down in my opinion. We've got nothing at all behind Scandrick right now, and one of those guys, if not more, is going to miss time this year.

I'd guess they're looking to add 2 CBs in the first 5 rounds of the draft. So far they've added one while losing 3. i don't think they want to fill out the CB corps with a bunch of veteran CBs with no upside, especially with Jenkins' impending FA status.

I forgot that he had a pick-six last year.
Nobody is going to remember how well he played for about 7 weeks after he came back last year because he finished the season so poorly. For a good chunk of the season, he was one of the league's best corners.

Basically polar opposites.
His finish to the season was as bad as any CB has played in Dallas in a long, long time.
I'm actually surprised he got another spot this quickly.
I figured it would taken an injury before it would happen.

I don't know why people post this and laugh as if it's some kind of hilarious thing.
You're a 5'11", 175lb CB trying to tackle a 6'6", 275lb Tight End with a head full of steam.
Please tell me how you would tackle him by not going low and attempting to chop him down.
I'll wait.

Yeah, tons of DBs get hurdled. You see it every week in the NFL. Not sure why this one is seen as so horrible, except that a lot of people just don't like Newman and never did.

He had an injury...brain farts.
I don't think last season was as much a result of him losing a step as it was a result of him losing confidence. He played slow not because of his physicality, but just a lack of confidence, which causes doubt, which causes hesitation, which causes you to slow down.
It's been noted that despite his age, he doesn't really have a lot of miles on his tires. I wouldn't be surprised to see him be productive, in a limited role, for another 3-4 years.

I think they are planning to add two players, too. Early in the offseason, they were making it clear what their intentions were. I'm not sure there's a guy at 14 worth considering, but it's a deep CB draft, and I do think there's a high likelihood there's a good player for us in the second round if we want him. The third is an option, too, if someone slips. If not, we'll find a developmental guy down in the rounds someplace. But we do need someone capable of taking snaps in this draft, for sure.

I think he's lost a step, that was apparent when Victor Cruz was easily pulling away from him in a foot race, but I also don't think he was a particularly good fit for Ryan's defense. Newman wants to play off man, read, react and jump routes. Ryan wants to blitz his safeties and ILBs, and needs his corners to be physical and delay the WRs from running crossing routes into the gaps of the middle of the field. Zimmer knows what he's getting in him.

He just doesn't fit this scheme anymore and in CIN he can play to his stengths but if they need him for the whole year they will regret it. Roy Williams didn't exactly revive his career with Zimmer either so best of wishes T-New.

He had several good years for us, and started off last season darn good for us.
Unfortunately either father time, or lack of confidence, or maybe both began to catch up with him real hard the last part of last season, especially the last month, and it was definately time to move on.
I'll always be proud of him as a Cowboys player and I wish him well.
