Should be a great game.

Im tired of watching the refs give Barcelona so many penalties though. The Lavante penalty this past weekend was just rediculous.

Wish I were still in Dallas working remotely, I would be able to watch this. But NOOOOOOO, I'm stuck at work here in DC. I hope to be able to sneak out early enough to catch at least the last 10-15 minutes or so. :(

I'm a madrid fan and was bummed by yesterday's result.

I'm not picking sides for today's game, but I really see a 0 0 match in the making. Chelsea will put together a defensive lineup (with their main goal being not to surrender a goal) to give them the advantage going into Camp Nou.

It will be a good one.

It will DEFINITELY be all over my old online standby but I can no longer safely watch live sports while at work...

i think it will end in a tie or a 1 goal win by chelsea. Id be surprised if barca won or lost by more than 1. Id also be surprised if they dont win by 2 or 3 back at home

Thank you! I was looking all over for the game and couldn't find it anywhere. Hopefully the commentators aren't as bad as the guys they had for college football on FX.

What was ridiculous about that penalty? The defender pushed the guy with both arms outstretched. It is hard not to call a foul in that situation. You bump a guy with a shoulder and it is not a foul by rule. You push a guy with an elbow and it is not likely to be called even if it is not allowed. You just can't push a guy with your hands on him and arms extended. It will get called the vast majority of the time.

What?

The attacker pushed the defender and then flopped to the ground.

Barca played a good game, but could not put the goal in the net. If they play like that next week they will pull off the win and move on.

As a Scotsman I want to see English teams being beaten in Europe, as a Celtic fan Chelsea are one of my least favourite teams. Not a great result tonight but I still think it'll be a El Classico final. I'd love to see Bayern win it though

I don't trust David Luiz on the back line. Or Bosingwa, either. I think Chelsea's best 4 defenders were on the pitch today in Cole, Ivanovic, Cahill and Terry. I agree with the speculation that Luiz will eventually get moved to the midfield. He is out for the second leg, too.

I hate Terry and Cole, both good players unfortunately. Cahill I quite like but think is over-rated, big Branislav is quality and seems an ok bloke as well though.

I agree 100%. Luiz finds himself out of position way too often and on many occasions commits stupid fouls because of it.

MC KAos

nope, they have to qualify, they arent out of it yet, though. Last time i checked, they were 4 points behind newcastle for the final spot, they have 3 games to go, so its still possible. i think newcastle still has to play city, but im not 100% sure on that one.

Newcastle still has to play @Chelsea and home to City so they could easily fall off. I expect Chelsea to finish better than Newcastle and Tottenham to close out the fourth spot in the table.

I got to see 95% of the second half after sneaking out of work early :)

What a second half! I did not even realize that Chelsea was playing a man down until just a few minutes left in the game when a fellow bar patron clued me in after I commented that it seemed like a hockey powerplay going on virtually the entire second half! Wow, that Messi smash off the crossbar...just wow.

Congrats to Chelsea! No way I get to see any of the Real / Bayern match today though. That one starts just TOO early, even for sneaking out.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH......

I was wrong! I see that the Real / Bayern match actually starts at 2:45 EST today, same as the game yesterday! Maybe I CAN sneak out early again today for the 2nd half! :D

If Chelsea win then they're back next year as holders and England only gets 3 spots through the league. Spurs (not The Spurs) are on a terrible run of form so Newcastle are probably the most likely to get 4th. Also Drogba is highly unlikely to be a Chelsea player next year.

haha sorry bud, didn't mean to come across as arsey. The "the spurs" thing just annoys me because I'm used to Americans referring to my team as the celtics rather than Celtic. Drogba will by all accounts end up in either the Middle East or China, basically wherever he gets the most money. I used to like Drogba when he was at Marseille but the combination of his diving antics and him playing for Chelsea have definitely put me off him.

So, the El Classico Champions League final is not happening in a big way.

And now Munich get a home game in the Final against Chelsea.

Will be interesting to see what happens with tickets for that game, as both clubs (in theory) should be given the same number of tickets.

Although, as a rule a certain number go to the host country so you would assume that the German FA would do the decent thing & let Bayern have most of those.

Both teams will be missing several key players due to suspension, and the down side for Chelsea is that Luiz will have to play, so at some point he is likely to gift Bayern a goal. That means Chelsea will have to score 2, because no way does an English team beat a German team on Penalties :)

Chelsea on alert as Pep Guardiola tells Barcelona he will quit at end of La Liga season and take break from football

Definitive confirmation is expected tomorrow after Barca told the former Spain international to sleep on it following discussions with club president Sandro Rosell.

Guardiola will meet with the players when they reconvene for training ahead of Sunday's trip to Rayo Vallecano, with the club then expected to reveal his final decision at Friday's press conference.

Guardiola has operated on short-term deals throughout his time at the Barca helm and his latest deal expires in the summer

Think it was a rhetorical question. As a Scot I obviously have never enjoyed an England Germany penalty shoot out far too much in my life and can't think off the top of my head what he may have been referring to. :)
