To be a really terrible draft you have to have first and second round busts. Dallas just missed on a bunch of late rounders. If that draft was started with a solid first rounder, no one would remember it.
can't believe our 09 class didn't make the worst list

Trading your first round pick for a bust is really the same thing ... no, actually it is worse as you not only give up the pick but also a gynormous contract

But Roy Williams wasn't a draft pick for the purposes of their list. Even if it amounts to the same thing for us, it doesn't actually affect the quality of our "draft".

That was a great draft and an overall great draft class.
It always helps to have two first round picks and all of your other picks in a draft full of good players. Very hard to screw it up....but the Cowboys went above and beyond that year.
2006 on the other hand....
Anyway, nice to be a good list for a change.

That was a monster draft for us. Could've been even better had we kept Harvey Dahl, who was one of our undrafted free agents that year.

Dallas's 2009 draft didn't make the list because we didn't have a 1st round pick that year....
Yes, trading the pick for Roy Williams was a horrible move and all. But, he was not a 2009 draft pick.

And if you want a list for absolute worst uses of draft picks, then the Dallas Cowboys use of draft picks in 2009 probably tops the list, or absolutely makes the top 5 list.
But, the list was worst drafts, and while the money and the pick used to get Roy Williams was an absolute disaster the trading for Roy Williams, etc was not part of the 2009 NFL draft.

RW11 makes list of worst trades.
Drafts are a different beast.
2009 was a give up draft because of a failed trade.
There were about 18 legit r1 prospects that draft and weak r2 and 3 ratings.
We traded down to about r4 rated guys and thus paid the inevitable price of draftiing guys that mostly sucked or needed a lot of development.

I'd say that since our first draft pick was used on Roy Williams and he was a colossal bust, you can count that entire offseason an epic all time wash.
The pain magnifies when you consider the list of folks we could've had with that first round pick also:
TE Brandon Pettigrew
WR Hakeem Nicks (who now has a SB ring)
WR Percy Harvin
OT Michael Oher
LB Clay Matthews (who now has a SB ring)
If we had gotten Harvin or Nicks we'd had no need for Dez. Had we gotten Oher we'd had no need for Tyron Smith we might've traded up for Patrick Peterson and had no need to sign Brandon Carr to a fat contract.
Sadly, I think a consensus poll here at CZ would've netted better drafting than the organization has done most recent years but tenfold in 2009.

2009 was an awful draft class as a whole. The 3rd round had 4 starters and 2 excellent players as a whole. That is not normal.
The best player in the 7th round was probably a punter and there were only 2 good players in the 6th round. That is just a historically bad draft. The back half of the 1st round may have been better than the top half.
Weird bad year without an early pick. We definitely had the wrong strategy for that year, but goodness without a 1st rounder our only shot at a good player was the 2nd rounder we traded out of. It is tempting 2 get 2 picks when you are missing 2 of your 1st 3.

Please. They had 12 picks and came up empty. That was horrific.
Not to mention you have to factor in why they didn't have that 1st rounder.
Just another epic Jerry blunder.

i find it fascinating that people want to make distinctions like this. Worst draft vs. worst use of draft picks.
Outcome is the only thing that matters.

I will repeat this one more time, since some don't seem to understand.
Roy Williams was not a 2009 draft pick. You may hate the 2009 offseason/Roy Williams trade. You have every reason to. But, their list was not about bad offseasons, or bad trades. It was about bad drafts. Their list is obviously going to be dominated by drafts with first and second round busts. "Busts" means players selected with draft picks who turn out to be no good. Players traded for are not busts.

Cowboys' fans myopia over the 2009 draft is sad. It was a weak draft, and we only got a couple of supporting players out of it. Nature of the beast. Retrospectively, the real error was not trading down for future picks.
The 2005 draft was even more superlative because we got a lot of really good starters out of it, and it was a weak draft.

I have to agree that 2009 draft class was pathetic...

I agree entirely with your post, but is there a reason Jimmy Johnson's name is misspelled in your sig? Is it some sort of joke I'm not getting?
