...Strengths: His strength is as a pass protector ... Has nice knee bend and flexibility when he kicks away from the line. Plays with balance and you do not see any overextension which happens to a lot of college linemen ... Really good job of movement and sliding with his man. Is very light on his feet and even when he is beaten with quickness, he is able to counter the move and work back into position to finish the block ... I am impressed with the way that, when he is uncovered in the pocket, he is always looking to help a teammate with a block ... Has outstanding awareness of his assignment and what he needs to do in the scheme to be successful ... You see the ability to adjust when defenses run blitzes to try and pressure Andrew Luck ... He is good at getting to the second level, able to combo with a center or tackle and work up ... Thought he did a better job sustaining blocks when on the edge moreso than when he was inside ... He can make the backside cut off block.

Weaknesses: If there is one area that DeCastro struggles in, it is when he has to be a one-on-one blocker in the running game. He doesn't always get the movement that you would expect from a player that benched 225 pounds 34 times at the combine. In this area, you see him getting stalemated more times than not, which is surprising.

Final Take: DeCastro is the best guard in a deep draft at the position. Thought there was a real chance before free agency that he was going to be the Cowboys' selection, but now I feel like they will go in a different direction. He's an outstanding pass protector and blocker on the edge, and does things with an ease of movement. But if he has a weakness, there are times where he doesn't get the movement as a drive blocker that you would expect.

Under Callaha, this does sound like the perfect future All Pro at center for the Cowboys. This could allow for a true drive blocking guard later in the draft.

I know that has been discussed, but it is still relevant in possibilities prior to this draft.

....Taking a diplomatic approach Tuesday, Romo refrained from repeating Jones' comments or even affirming them. But he did say, "I just think you're comfortable when you have a nice, protected pocket."

Far too often last season, he didn't have that luxury, and that's why the Cowboys should draft an offensive lineman in the first round for the second consecutive year.

Stanford guard David DeCastro, a player identified as the best interior lineman prospect since seven-time Pro Bowler Steve Huchinson was selected in 2001, would be the optimal choice.

Even with the recent acquisitions of veteran guards Mackenzy Bernadeau and Nate Livings, the Cowboys have room for another player who like Smith, can be a pillar in the organization for years to come.

I sure hope that report is bogus because I don't want a guard or center who struggled to move college linemen in run blocking; I'd rather have a good run blocker who needs work in pass pro, something you can coach up.

If DeCastro is supposed to be the best guard to come out in years, I'm hesitant to believe that report.

Considering this has only come from a couple of so called experts I would be skeptical too.

Ross Tucker on Sirius said he was the best guard prospect he has seen in years and since Ross actually PLAYED on the O line I certainly give his opinion more weight then Broaddus

His initial strength in the short area may not be the most powerful, but his other strengths out weight that fact to where it is negligible. Plus get him work with MW and he will get stronger in that dept in a couple of years. A guard or center that can hit moving targets consistently and is an a plus pass protecter sounds like an all pro to me!!

Also we we will be geared to more of a zone blocking scheme which utilizes angles more than man will, suit him fine.
