If anyone was going to take the place of Barron and make me happy it he was one of them, awesome, awesome player. Now we need to address the OL.

The Cowboys are by far the best promoters in sports. By the time the season starts people are going to expect Claiborne to never be beaten.

I've posted in numerous threads that Ryan places a lot of emphasis in his corners in his scheme.
This pick is just pure money fellas, pure money.

This scout better have a lot of hits in the past or else I would question why is he still working for us and get a drug test on him.:laugh2:

I have seen him be compare to Champ Bailey. At first I was upset with the trade and almost caused an accident as I had to listen to the first 10 picks on the radio coming home from work. Then when I heard it was Claiborne and doing a little research on him, I actually like the pick.

Personally, I'm a hell of a lot more inclined to accept what our scouts tell us than what YOU say...

I do believe he did say that.
He also said, while he isn't as athletically talented as Patrick Peterson, he is better CB prospect that Peterson was.
I like it because Eli puts the ball up and lets his big receivers compete for it, Vick is often off-target and RgIII is a rook,,, turnovers will be a wonderful and more frequent occurrence now. :)

Man that's some tall cotton to be walking in with praise like that.
However, as an LSU fan I watched him play a lot and he is all that and a bag of chips. He is going to do something for the defense that hasn't been done since Deion was here and that is effectively shut down half the field for the opposing teams defense.
He was RARELY targeted last year and he still came away with six picks. He often looked like a man among boys.
The NFL is a much faster game with consistently better WRs and QBs so there will be a period of adjustment, but from everything that I have seen and from what the reports on him are from scouts and evaluators, he will make the transition with ease.
As I said in another thread, there is no way I would have thought we had any shot to move up and get him so he wasn't even on my radar. But man am I happy we got him. (On a side note, as an LSU fan I was really worried about all the talk of Brockers. Glad we dodged that one.)

claiborne ran a 4.39 at his pro day.I saw his time was 4.43. Entirely unscientific, but using a stopwatch myself I timed it in the 4.3s watching this. In any event, it's a long way off from 4.5s.

Mo is a much better CB than Peterson (who I loved) and is the real deal. Don't know why he ran so slow at the combine because it has always been known at LSU that Claiborne was just as fast as Peterson. He did run a 4.39 at his pro day and speed is simply not an issue.

I never have trusted Pro days. Handheld stop watches.
He plays fast and I don't see him getting burned deep so it's ok. I don't see the incredible closing speed that Deon has or the way Deon can bait then pick the ball off.

Cowboys scouts gave Claiborne their highest grade since Deion Sanders, Jerry Jones says
“Deion was special with his burst, but certainly, he is the best they have graded for us since Deion,” Jones said Thursday night after the Cowboys selected the LSU cornerback. “That would have included Deion after he
“Terence Newman was one of the top cornerbacks around, in my eyes, on coverage, but not necessarily in going up and making the plays,” Jones said. “But we have been void of that for several years now. I think these two guys we have brought in can play the ball. And if Poole can be at the top of his game he can play the ball.”
“As far as being just the centerfield and doing what we need to do as far as man and being sound there,” Jones said. “That combination, I don’t remember – that can literally play man, have the size and the speed and can be the center fielder.”

the key thing to note is SINCE Deion.
our scouts arent grading him equal to or above Deion.
but they do grade him above TNew for instance.
i think many on this forum make Jerry sound football smart. he talks about how Claiborne plays the ball versus a guy like TNew merely staying lock step with WRs and it is so salient and important. he is saying the right football things in between those terrible umms, relative to's and ahhhs.

nice link bro.
fairly poor form for the 40 because he got high so quickly but he did run naturally.
he was a state 100m champ coming out of high school so can fly for sure.

uh......ok, we shall see. I wouldn't bet the farm on what the cowboys scouts say: seriously.
This is silly. We know one thing about scouts. They're human, thus they make mistakes. But every team has its own team of scouts. They all write separate reports. When it's done they're given a grade based on those reports. Why would you hire your own scouts if you weren't going to use the grade in their reports?
Could they be wrong?
Why, yes, they are human.
But that it would defeat the purpose of having the luxury of hiring your own scouts and getting your own grade on players. It adds a certain amount of subjectivity, but in the end I think it's a pretty good system. And the Cowboys have had rather good scouting, particularly when looking in the cracks and crevices of the player pool.

THIS!
Some people have the hardest time understanding the written word. For all we know those scouts had Deion rated as twice Claiborne's ability. The comparision is NOT to Deion. It's to everyone SINCE Deion.

I was wondering if you had some knowledge on his intangibles? It was well publicized that Garrett wanted high character team captain hard working type players going into the draft but I haven't seen too much on how Claiborne graded out on those.
