An excerpt that I really loved reading:

"Seconds later, Demoff fielded a call from Cowboys general manager Stephen Jones, who wanted to trade up to draft Claiborne. "How are you, Stephen," Demoff said. "We're interested in doing something."

Demoff had laid the groundwork for such a discussion six hours earlier, dialing Jones and telling him, "If you want to trade up to 6, consider us. We'll be reasonable. We already got such a great deal from the Redskins that we won't try to screw you guys."

Now, with the Rams on the clock, Jones told Demoff he'd make the deal for Dallas' first- and second-round selections: 14th and 45th overall. The Rams' COO hung up and briefly discussed the trade with Fisher and Snead, reviewing a value chart assigning points to specific picks. Then he called Jones back and said, "Stephen, it's Kevin. Would you throw in your five? … Come on. … What will you throw in as a cherry on top?"

[I]Um … nothing.

Demoff laughed. "Alright," he said, "we'll call you right back."

Demoff redialed Jones a minute later and told him he had a deal, making a joke about how, by trading away their second-rounder, the Cowboys were mitigating the pain of the $10 million salary-cap penalty imposed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The Rams were halfway through their allotted 10 minutes and, after Demoff called in the trade to an NFL official in New York City, Fisher pumped both fists."

Two things I love. First, the Rams know they stuck it to the Redskins in the trade before. Second, Dallas played Hardball regarding another pick and won.

I don't consider Dallas not caving in for another pick as playing hardball.
Dallas gave up a HUGE Round 2 pick.
That hurts.

Jerra did what he had to do and god bless him. There were so many needs that no matter what he picked -- defensive lineman/secondard/O-line he will get disparaged.

I won't laud this kinda of "hardball" but neither will i second guess him. He knew our secondary needed help and he done it.

Another point that I like about this story is that other GM's know the league screwed the Cowboys and Washington, so the Rams gave the Cowboys a huge discount.

LOL Love it!!!

Mara is probably pissed about this. It isn't very competitively balanced to screw over Washington and NOT screw Dallas over. If you're going rob one team, you've got to rob the other one. It's the NFL way!

It's huge to us since we only had one 2nd, but considering the big picture it was a steal being able to move to the 6th spot for just a 2nd

If you think about last night, and how the picks that were traded, all the trades were fairly reasonable. Nobody got robbed. Especially the cowboys, and I'm not even that high on the pick, but nobody could argue we paid too much to move up 8 spots.

Now think about what the redskins paid to move up to the #2 spot. Three #1's.

That is called sexual assualt where I come from.

If RGIII is in fact the real deal the Redskins will be more than happy parting with those picks. The price of highly rated QBs will be higher than the norm.

Heard Mara is lobbying to take away all of our 2nd round picks for the next 10 years, because we did not pay the going rate.

Yeah, it's the classic boom or bust. They stand to lose a heck of a lot more if it goes wrong, but they will benefit more than any other team who traded if they're right and hit on the player.

Demoff referring to Stephen as the Cowboys GM was also pretty interesting.

Impossible. I've been assured our front office doesn't know what they are doing.

And if he isn't the real deal the Skins will be set back a few years yet again.

Half a decade at least.

If he isn't, they'll need to find his replacement, and they'll be developing holes the additional first rounders could've filled.

I'd hate to be in their shoes and not have a first round pick until 2015.

4 picks for one player. Freaking steep price to pay especially if he doesn't pan out and those additional firsts end up behind top 15 picks.

And I really love that it was the Foreskins pick @ #6 that this action went down about.
