The Dallas Cowboys believe guard Ronald Leary's knee will hold up, but if he has a problem with it, a team source said it could mean microfracture surgery, a type of arthroscopic surgery that could be career-ending.

The negative long-term prognosis is why the Memphis player went from a possible third-round prospect to undrafted. The Cowboys signed him Saturday night after the draft.

"It's about how long he can play," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in announcing the signing. "It's not about now. That's why he fell the way he fell."

Man I hope his knee holds up. On the field and off. He could be a good player.

There are two ways of reading this: either the kid is a player or the competition is not particularly good. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

UDFA signing = zero bust potential, unlimited boom potential.

Let's hope it works out!

He is a pretty good football player. Since my team currently resides in C-USA I have had a chance to watch a lot of Memphis football. It was indeed painful, but I did watch.

I thought I saw a remark where Callahan believed he was the most NFL ready of any of the interior OL's. That's pretty shocking in a group that includes DeCastro.

Nice analysis.

Too few people are being positive these days, save Claiborne.

Positives:
Big and physical. Outstanding arm length. Good anchor strength. Can generate some movement in the run game. Surprising recovery speed and finishing power. Flashes some nastiness and will drive defenders into the ground. Has a passion for the game. Outstanding work ethic.

Negatives:
Has very small hands. Average athlete with heavy legs. Tends to catch a lot and can do a better job of using his hands to strike. Is late to reach linebackers and initiate contact on the move. Weight has fluctuated in the past and pushed 350 pounds upon his arrival.

Summary:
Thick-bodied, three-year starting college left tackle who projects best to guard in a man-blocking scheme in the pros. Has eventual starter potential.

Was his playing time in college ever compromised because of his knee?

No. This was something that I believe showed up in the medicals before the draft.

I believe he started 30 or 40 straight games at Memphis.

I saw that but I figured that you would explain it. Funny stuff as usual from the tupperware.

No.

I'm guessing though that all those years of practice agains Dontari Poe is what caused the condition.

The human body can only take so much and matching up against an unstoppable monster like Poe has to take a toll.
