While it’s believed Mike Jenkins remains on the trade block and could stay there into training camp, the Cowboys have at least kept open lines of communication with the contract-year cornerback amid heavy speculation that Jenkins’ time in Dallas is up.

Specifically, Cowboys first-year secondary coach Jerome Henderson reached out to Jenkins after Dallas traded up to draft Morris Claiborne, who is Jenkins’ replacement in the starting lineup.

“I’ll keep that conversation between Mike and I,” said Henderson, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. “It was a personal conversation and it was me speaking to him, both as a coach and also just a guy who’s played in the league and been through some things. … We had a real good conversation.”

I hope he stays this year at least.

I'm at the point that I don't mind losing Jenkins for nothing if that means we get to keep him this year. I don't want the 5th or 6th rounder we'll get for him. I want to atleast see this secondary for one year before Jenkins bolts.

......royaice......feel the same way: besides that, we all love Carr and Claiborne and to a lesser extent Scandrick....solid 3.....but injuries DO happen in this league. Jenkins would be nice insurance: no friggin' WAY should they trade him for less than a low 3rd....maybe high 4th. However, due to the shoulder he won't fetch that. So.......like you said, they should just keep him.
IF he gets another chance something tells me he'll play awfully hard. After all, it IS a contract year.:)

He's not in limbo. He's under contract.

If he walks after the year and gets a Carr-like contract we'd probably get a 4th round compensatory pick.

So for a year of his services I'd want a second rounder for a young Pro Bowl CB. I'd be happy to make it conditional on him starting so many games with it reverting to a 4th rounder if he doesn't start at all.

The only thing is we need another CB if we trade him and I"m not sure what they think of all the UDFAs they have brought in. I think you need at least 5 corners these days because of all the spread offenses that make you put 4 CBs out there.

I like this plan, there's no sense in trading him for peanuts if we are going to get similar compensation when he walks next season anyway. It will be nice to have some depth at CB for once.

....and at the end of the day, the cowboys are just testing the waters if you will. Trolling and throwing some chum in to see if anyone will bite. But as I said, with that shoulder: no way anyone will give up much. AS EGG said, some quality depth at CB for the first time in MANY years will be welcome.

We can't trade him for anything with that shoulder. I am convinced they don;t think he will be back for the start of the season, hence the Claiborne pick.

At least a 4th rnd. He's a pro bowl cornerback...

Right. I doubt he passes a physical, which is required in any trade. He won't be ready until at least training camp from what I hear.

The only hope is that another team gets a run of CB injuries at training camp and will be ready to make a deal to shore up some holes.

Other than that, Jenkins has no value.

A Carr-like deal will leverage a 3rd - that's what Oakland got for the guy whose name I cannot spell

If a team wants him they will pass him on that physical - those physicals are about checking to see if there are issues that the team didn't know about -- teams would know he was coming off shoulder surgery. So long as he is where he should be in his rehab, that wouldn't be a barrier to a trade.
