I linked it a few days ago but didn't realize that you couldn't even link to youtube if it has language, so I waited till one was posted with no language. Apparently the guy is named nick, is a freshman and only needed a few stitches where his head hit the glass

It's a stupid tradition they have at UT. Students line each side of the crosswalk with foam "swords"... when the light turns red and they can cross, they run to the center and have a sword fight... retreating when the light is green again...

This Einstein got a little anxious and went Sparta a couple of seconds too early...

Oh... and as you might expect, he has retained a lawyer and may sue...

Oh... and as you might expect, he has retained a lawyer and may sue...

Wow.

This is what's wrong with America these days. You do something stupid, and you're allowed to sue.

IMO not only should he not be allowed to sue, but he should be castrated to ensure he isn't able to spread more stupidity to the world.

In the report I saw on Friday the news said the bus had run a red light. Don't know if that report was correct or not, but it should be easy to prove since many of the traffic signals in town have cameras on them. If it was red, that is going to help the kids case. Still was dumb of him not to look before he ran into the street.

i have a hard time believing the light was red or people from the other side would have run out

Maybe those people were smart enough to look at traffic and could actually see a bus still driving down the street. Being across the street they would have had a better view of where the bus was. Like I said, it should be easy to prove whether the light was red, yellow or green. The busses also have cameras on them. I am wondering when that video will be released.

They are now saying that the bus did not run a red light? Cap Metro and the police (be nice CowboyMcCoy) are saying they reviewed the tape and the bus did not run it....which goes along w/ the fact that "Nick" was the only one who ran out into the road.

Now to the video.......Knowing that the kid is alright, that video is funny has heck. Looks almost fake. You have all these drunk, shirtless frat guys screaming and the one kid dressed nicely w/ his backpack on is the one that gets hit.

Thanks, I only saw the report on Friday. I figured more information would come out as time goes by.

I just saw a report too that said the driver ran a red light.

The kid only got a few stitches. He should be thankful he is still alive and just walk away from this entire situation regardless if the guy ran a light or not.

Who is he suing? And for what?

Himself, for walking in front of a bus?

If he sues, I hope that after he loses, the city makes him pay for the window he broke.

Unfortunately the city has a history of giving in to stupid lawsuits and will end up paying out.

Living in Austin for over 16 years and seeing them cave on lawsuits in the past. Experience shows they have a tendency to settle instead of fighting lawsuits that they should easily win.

You're wrong. Travis county is as stubborn as they come because of Texas' state immunity laws.... In these cases, there is even a cap as to how much he could actually get in a law suit.

This case won't sniff a courtroom.

To be fair, it does look like the bus ran a red light. If you look right as he steps onto the road, other kids on the other side are already getting onto the road...he might've been getting on the road just before other students were, but that bus did run the red light.

With that said, who doesn't look both ways before crossing, especially Guadalupe st. Just dumb, but I'm glad he's OK.

According to this article (http://www.statesman.com/news/local/bus-driver-who-hit-student-will-likely-have-2346677.html), both the Austin police and the Capitol Metro administration agree the bus driver did not run a red light.

APD got a tape. They don't get many things right. I mean, it is APD. But they don't have to look too hard for evidence. It's all on tape, which doesn't lie to anyone....

Oh do they have on tape that he ran out on yellow/green?

I was just looking at some of the memes, and before he's hit by the bus, you can see people on the other end of the street already into the crosswalk, so I just assumed that the bus was in teh crosswalk on red.

I could be wrong though I didn't see it.

Also, I'm glad I missed foam sword Friday.

Even then, in most cities, pedestrians in crosswalks have the right of way. It's dumb, because it's even if the light is green. People here in DC just cross the street without looking all the time. Makes me want to run them over.

Yes, they have a tape from the bus and/or the light it supposedly ran. But it didn't really run the light. One of our local news anchors and I were talking about this because he was wondering if he should have identified the bus driver before he knew if he actually ran the light. I told him as long as you report that evidence later showed he didn't run the light all should be fair.
