Interestingly enough, Antwuan Davis was quoted by Hookem.com/247Sports that he was going to call Maurice Smith to try and get him to sign with Texas as well. As you may know, Smith is another DB out of Sugar Land that the Horns have interest in. It's really going to come down to who signs first IMO. Texas is recruiting Smith, Cole Luke and Colin Janice at CB. It will probably come down to which one commits first.

I think with the way Bynum and Diggs played last year, they are on their way to becoming DBU again.

I'm not getting my hopes up for him, he said he is announcing at the UA game, how often do UT recruits commit at these events? I can't think of one right now, it isn't what UT commits do. We just offered chevetski(sp?) collins and I hear things are heating up with Georgia S vonn bell and we are deeper in the hunt than people realize.
akina is taking trips to bell and luke in the next couple of weeks. In other news WR robbie rhodes has been told he will be offered this weekend at the state track meet

My understanding is that we will be signing a Safety but also another CB as well. Who know, if somebody unexpected comes on board, that could change but that's what I hear the Horns are looking at.

The story goes they were in a bar on sixth street, got drunk, Vaccaro threw up all over the bathroom and tore some stuff up and they bailed. They then went down the street to a Pizza joint, got in a shoving match and were arrested outside by cops who followed them from the bar. They would then not listen to officers commands and had to be restrained. They were charged with a class c misdemeanor and will likely serve community service, though the bar (owned by a former Texas law student) did not file destruction of property charges.

Every story covers the Pizza joint incident, the arrest and the misdemeanor charge. Here's one for you:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/blog/rob-rang/18993471/nfl-prospects-okafor-vaccaro-among-texas-trio-arrested-monday
Three University of Texas football players -- reserve tight end Barrett Matthews, starting defensive end Alex Okafor and starting strong safety Kenny Vaccaro -- were arrested outside of a downtown Austin pizza parlor at 1:29 am Monday, according to various reports.
The players were charged with failure to obey a lawful order, a Class C misdemeanor.
That's the official story. The part about the bar incident is being talked about on various Texas boards who claim they were there or saw them leaving. A guy on Orangebloods said he watched Vaccaro throw a glass aginst the wall and take out a line of glasses/drinks on the bar before leaving. It sounds like the owner is a big Texas fan and tried to keep it under wraps by not filing charges.

I don't think a bunch of Texas fans would make something like that up about their own players. Just sayin. And unless I'm mistaken this was Vaccaro's second arrest.

you are probably right, but i still dont think it will affect his draft stock because by next january when the evaluation starts, if there is no charges or anything on record, its not gonna be there for teams to go by.

24/7 says that no tickets were issued and no charges will be filed. If no tickets were issued then they weren't technically arrested right? Or do I have that wrong? The only things I've seen is that they failed to obey a lawful order which is a class c misdemeanor but if no citations are issued I'm not sure how that works.

6'3" 215 lbs 4.53 guy.
He had offers from Baylor, Duke, Georgia, Houston, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Purdue, TCU, Texas Tech, Utah, UTEP, UTSA and Wake Forest.
This is really the first I've heard that Texas was interested in Huhn. The first Texas sign that is really not a big time target. Though Huhn had some decent schools offering him, he was pretty much under the radar. I was surprised at this signing. I like the kid. He's smart and he's 100% football player. I think he's going to be a nice player.

they think he has been offered as a guard, they were impressed with his quickness(relative to his size/weight) at the camp this weekend
here is a quote from Hardreck Walker
"I went again one of the best offensive linemen I've ever gone against today. Hands down he was the best offensive lineman I've ever seen. He went to Waco High School (Andrew Billings). He was just so strong, he's feet were so good. If he got his hands on you, there was nowhere you could go."
they also said he did well against hoza scott which is a top DE and sure offer for 2014 which is why they probably offered him. dude was credited with like 150 pancake blocks

we pretty much have the best OC in the country coming in so it wouldn't make sense to have him try and learn that position and compete. They are going to want him on the field asap because he already has college level strength and at the very least won't be moved.

RSJ decommitted from Texas, supposedly on the grounds that he wants to play both football and basketball and Texas wasnt offering him that chance. He is expected to visit A&M this weekend followed by LSU the next.
Needless to say, this is surprising. Mack Brown doesn't typically have recruits of this high a profile decommit, let alone do so with little intention of re-committing.

possibly, but I'd say hampton has as quick a first step as any big man in the game and I don't see that from this guy. I honestly think he will be a guard, if his arms are really as long as they say, he will be able to anchor so naturally and play with great leverage and won't be moved in pass pro

I think Baylor's offense is more receiver friendly than UT's, and with Briles' quarterback recruiting reputation coupled with the fact Baylor is likely to send another wideout to the NFL Draft in the first round next year, it's not a tough place to sell a wideout to come aboard and shine.

Chuckle... here's betting that the author of that piece went to Baylor...
The truth is, this is ONE recruit that Baylor snatched away from Texas, but the Bears have hardly "outrecruited" the Horns in this 2013 class... Rivals.com lists Baylor as having the 19th best recruiting class in the nation, with 12 signees-- no 5 star recruits, 1 4 star recruit, 10 3 star recruits, which adds up to 11, so I guess they have on recruit who grades out at 2 stars or less... the average star rating for their 12 recruits is 3.0, and Rivals gives them a grade of 885 (to be honest, I have no idea how they compile those grades)...
Meanwhile, the Horns currently have the 4th ranked recruiting class in the nation, with 15 signees, 1 5 star recruit, 9 4 star recruits, 4 3 star recruits, and 1 recruit with 2 starts or less... the average star rating for their recruits is 3.79, and their Rivals grade is 1913...

I think Baylor's offense is more receiver friendly than UT's, and with Briles' quarterback recruiting reputation coupled with the fact Baylor is likely to send another wideout to the NFL Draft in the first round next year, it's not a tough place to sell a wideout to come aboard and shine.
absolutely true, however I do not believe they are being truthful with Rhodes as the reports are they have been selling him on the kendall wright role and he really doesn't fit that role based on his film. Rhodes has great burst off the line and short area quickness that gets him open quickly and that is not really what wright did.

I think this is a pretty big assumption at this point. First of all, Texas has to find a capable quarterback to operate the offense. Second, they have to start developing wide receiver talent better as it seems most of their recruits in recent years are either busts or have left the program. Finally, the offense has to be shown to be effective outside of the WAC.
I don't think there's any question that Baylor is a more attractive destination for receivers right now, all other preconceived notions about the two programs aside.

I don't. Texas has the top ranked QB in the country commited in Swoops, they have Brewer who has talent this year, they have two young QBs who should be much better and they have one of the best OCs in the college game. If they had the old coaching staff, then I could probably agree with your statement a bit more. However, because they now have Brian Harson, I don't think it's a stretch at all. He will install the same kind of offense we saw at Boise St., just with superior athletes. As for your statement about the offense, well, that's a talent question, not an offensive scheme question.
At this point, Baylor is in worse shape offensively then is Texas. They lost some very key players from their offense and they won't be replacing those folks easily. Your statement about Baylor being a more attractive destination, based on your reasoning, doesn't hold water.

So they may not be as flashy at signal caller but i don't expect a tremendously different team in terms of production.
Now their porous defense needs to improve, so we'll see what recruiting did for that in a positive manner.

I don't disagree that they have talent coming in but I don't agree, based on the circumstances provided by Slant that Baylor's situation is better. From the QB perspective, Texas clearly has a better situation because they have more talent and experience coming back at the position. They are better because they have Brewer coming in and Swoops commited. That is much, much more talent and experience at the position then Baylor. They have a much stronger Running Game then does Baylor and they have vastly improved OL that is only acquiring more talent. If I'm a WR, I don't see the huge advantage that Baylor offers of the talent or offense at Texas. This is really not a statement on Baylor. I was simply pointing out that the argument put forth was not a very convincing one in why Baylor might be more attractive from a talent or scheme standpoint.

I had posted earlier on Caleb Benenoch (Katy/Seven Lakes) being at Texas for a recruiting function this past weekend and about Brown having a private conversation with Benenoch. Apparently Benenoch has announced that he has de-committed from Michigan State and speculation is that this will open the door for a move to UT or possibly OU who also offered him as recently as last night. It is only speculation but based on previous activities, it does track.
Also, the recent signing of offer for Geoff Swaim, the JUCO TE by Texas was a bit of a head scratcher by some but if you look at it closer, it makes all the sense in the world. Texas has what many in the country believe to be the finest RB talent in College Football. They have revamped their OL and have several quality underclassman coming back on the OL this year and several quality recruits coming in on the 2012 class (Kennedy Estelle - Camerhon Hughes - Curtis Riser - Donald Hawkins ) and the follow on 2013 class (Darius James - Kent Perkins - Jake Raulerson and possibly Benenoch or Billings). Swaim is probably the very best blocking TE prospect anywhere in the country. Texas offered him specifically to solidify the OL and add that much more strength to an already loaded group of OLs.

Recruiting for UT is like playing NCAA on freshman level. All they have to do is throw offers on the table and they're done.

I have a question for you Horn fans. Is David Ash going to be the starting qb?Not a Horn, but yes, he is projected to start in 2012 and probably fight for the job with Swoopes in 2013.

yes at least at the start of the season. If he can't handle it then I doubt mccoy gets the go ahead, I think they give ash till mid season and if he isn't the guy I think they will move to brewer or possibly overstreet as a full time read option QB but lets hope it doesn't come to that

This is a huge get for Texas. This kid kicks em into the parking lot. He's a very good, very strong kicker/Punter.

ironically, i don't have a problem with anyone on that list except for the first commit. when i heard it was a receiver i thought it was kd cannon. i dont know anything about joe but his ranking and offer list are not very impressive.

hopefully what that means is that we have really done our homework and are ahead of the game. There are lots and lots of guys that look like they will be beasts there sophmore year then fall off by senior year and still more that show flashes sophmore year but maybe play behind talented seniors and get lost in the mix and explode onto the scene later when they become the guy and hopefully that is the case here

BTW I'm on the fence about the early offer thing, it is really hard to hold a highschool kids interest for over two years and this may lead to more decommitments than we have ever seen out of UT, on the flip side it has been coming out recently that we have been losing out on guys because we didn't jump on them quick enough and their egos get bruised and it is too little too late to make up the ground so I really don't know. Usually UT gets a commit and then stops pursuing them and focuses else where but they won't be able to do that if they offer two years out, if a kid commits they will still have to battle to keep kids from being swayed and all the negative recruiting against UT, it is a whole different ball game than they are used to so I guess we will just have to wait and see how they handle it.

i hope you're right about Joe. But i'm of the thinking that your first recruit of the class (bell cow) should be a top notch recruit and someone who is going to have sway over other recruits, for example, jake raulerson. elite notch recruits want to go play with other elite recruits. that's why it's important to have a top notch guy as your 1st commitment for symbolic reasons.
as for the early recruiting issue, blame the low down dirty sec. a&m has opened the door for them to come into texas and offer kids still in their baby cribs. i dont like it either. i preferred when texas waited till junior days to make their first offers. but i guess you have to adapt with the times unfortunately.

I have heard that they are no longer actively recruiting him and it has nothing to do with the injury and everything to do with him all of the sudden wanting to visit USC and Oregon. Didn't know they rescinded his offer
