Only a few hours after Tom Brady was spotted attending the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, Eli Manning hosted Saturday Night Live. Brady looked especially Brady-ish, with stylish shades and an outfit straight out of Entourage. The only thing he lacked was one of those cool Kentucky Derby hats.
Eli continued his "Can Do No Wrong Tour" by becoming one of the few pro athletes to do well hosting America's most popular live comedy show.
And absolutely no one said anything negative about those respective public appearances, forays into pop culture and the Hollywood lifestyles.

You said it, roc. More dreck. He writes this: "How quickly we forget how Romo worked his way from being an obscure
QB in Burlington, Wis., to a player at FCS-level Eastern Illinois, where he was not even on full scholarship, to undrafted rookie invitee to Pro Bowl QB.
Not many people can say they did this."
But then he writes virtually every other word in his piece, before and after, with the purpose of putting Romo down for his offseason, off the field activities, because he hasn't led the Cowboys to a Super Bowl win yet. What a putz.

i honestly couldn't even read the whole thing. it's not even frustrating or upsetting to read this, its' just boring. its all old, tired arguments, that anyone who actually watches football will tell you aren't even accurate.
it's the same as when they say dirk nowitzki is soft. he's already won a championship by beating Kobe, Durant, and Lebron yet just last week Cowherd was saying Dirk is just a soft euro.
I didn't need to see Dirk win a title to prove to me he wasn't soft. but even after winning the title he still receives the same criticism. Romo is in the same boat, these people have nothing better to do or write about than this kind of garbage thats just published to shock people.

Dan Marino never won a SB and he was still considered cool enough to get a part in Ace Ventura. Why doesn't the columnist just join the airheads on The View if he cares so much about stupid brain-dead pop culture/celebrity status issues?

:lmao2:
I won't read the story (on advice from my friends) but if it's anything like the title it strikes me as a story to be presented AGAIN because it came up in Mac's monthly tickler file "Story about how Romo is over-rated, underachieving, costing us SB's, holding us back, etc."
Whatever...

Wow, everyone is posting without having a clue what Engel wrote. DID ANY OF YOU ACTUALLY READ THE ARTICLE?
He didn't say Romo was a subpar QB. He didn't say there was anything wrong with Romo attending high profile functions or playing in offseason golf tournaments. Nevertheless it appears that all you who posted on here think he said those things.
What he said is that "HOWEVER INACCURATE", since Romo has not won a Super Bowl people use those things to create a perception about Romo that he is focused on things other than football. Can anyone tell me how that is inaccurate? In fact, if anyone actually bothered to read the article with a clear mind they would see that Engle was saying that it is unfair that people have that perception of Romo, and that in fact Engel promotes Romo's dedication to growing from an obscure no name to a top NFL QB.

I actually read it when I posted it and agree with your assessment. However, I was not going to stop the bashing, because the name Engel generates a certain bias regardless of the content of the article. Thought it would be a waste of time on my part. But kudos to you for giving it the old college try.

If one or two people misread the article I would have either let it pass, or just politely suggest they misread the article, but when poster after poster misread it, and even a few bashed the writer when they admitted they didn't bother to read some or all of it, I felt compelled to say something. I'm hard headed that way.

guilty as charged. as i stated, i couldn't even make it through the entire article. not sure if i should blame it on my a.d.d. or the author's bland writing style.

When I saw Engel associated with Romo, I assumed it would be a bash job.
But when I read, it really wasn't....so I didn't post anythng :p:

Admittedly it wasn't an exciting article, and really a pretty stale topic. Didn't really say anything that others haven't been talking about for a few years now.

But did we really need another article about Romo like this? The guy could be writing about the draft picks and udfa's but that would actually take a little leg work. And I'm sure it still would be a poor article because the guy has no talent for this line of work.

Ive read this thing twice. Im still not sure what to think.
Is Mac saying Romo doesnt belong mingling with celebrities because he doesnt have a ring, or is that just what he believes is the public perception whether its right or wrong? '

This type of garbage belongs on People or the National Enquirer. Certainly has nothing to do with sports, or actual reporting.

I thought it was just me. It seems he's calling it perception, but he seems to have an underlying agreement with the perception that Romo doesn't belong at these A-list functions. Yet he mentions his unprecedented rise from UFA to the highest profile position in sports as if that should be justification for him being at these A-list functions where he doesn't seem to believe Romo belongs.
