GRAPEVINE, Texas – Laurent Robinson made the most of his opportunity as the Cowboys’ No. 3 receiver last year. Robinson caught 54 passes for 858 yards and 11 touchdowns, by far the best season of his five-year career.
While he didn’t immediately step into the significant role, Robinson found his niche after injuries to Miles Austin and Dez Bryant presented the opportunity. With Robinson signing a free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in March, the Cowboys are in need of a receiver to fill that important role.
There’s a chance the Cowboys could sign a veteran free agent before the season starts. If not, Andre Holmes, Raymond Radway, Dwayne Harris, Kevin Ogletree or Danny Coale, the team’s fifth round pick last month, would likely battle for that spot. Ogletree, 24, is the most experienced of the group, catching 15 balls for 164 yards last season.
Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who has worked with all but Coale, said Wednesday that one of the inexperienced receivers could handle the No. 3 spot....
