You agree? Poll rank might be controversial for where coaches are placed, discuss.

Ranking Bill Snyder and Mack Brown below Mike freaking Gundy is a travesty. The top 5 should be:
1/2: Bob Stoops/Mack Brown
Big gap
3: Gary Patterson
4: Bill Snyder
Smaller gap
5: Mike Gundy
6: Dana Holgorson
7: Art Briles
8-10: Blah
And it's pretty tough to say that the Big XII has better coaching than the Big 10 or the SEC.

getting patterson puts us over the top and harbaughs departure from stanford keeps them(pac-12) from winning

I think collectively it's hard to argue with the 10 resumes, if leach was still at tech the Big 12 would be doing a one handed hand stand above other coaching corps.

In my mind, Gary Patterson is the best pure football coach, not recruiter, just football coach in the Big 12. JMO

I'll agree with you if TCU goes out and competes for a conference title this season with the big boys. Until then, he's just another guy who won big in a small pond.

coaches are hamstrung at ND on what athletes they can take due to academics, until they open up who they take like stanford did they will always be behind the 8 ball

Really? That's interesting. I have seen you tout Sumlin as a great coachfor TAMU many times yet he has not coached one game in the SEC. I guess I don't get the distinction.
Doesn't matter. I'm just talking about Coaching. What you are talking about also has a great deal to do with talent as well as coaching but I am not really trying to make excuses here. If that is what it will take for you, That's fine with me. However, I hope that you use that same standard when discussing Sumlin going forward.

No love for Briles:D He is a good recruiter and offensive mind but seems to ignore defense

I think Sumlin was a good hire based on credentials, just like I would think Gary Patterson was a good hired based on his credentials. However, I would never rank Sumlin near the top of an SEC coaching list until he proves his success at UH wasnt a fluke. Likewise, I'll need Patterson to win on the big stage before calling him a truly great coach to be mentioned alongside guys like Brown and Stoops.

Fair enough. We will eventually see how it all falls out. Good luck to both, they will both need it.

i think there is NO QUESTION that if we are talking about the best coaches at the top, the SEC is clearly the best, the big 10 might be better than the big 12.
HOWEVER! one of the worse coaches in the big 12 would be charlie weis, a guy that took notre dame to a BCS bowl game, and probably the other at the bottom is paul rhoads, who has done a good job with Iowa State, even having some BIG TIME wins in conference and non conference play, after taking over for a so called "GREAT" SEC coach! who the hell is the coach at vandy? purdue? UK? so from top to bottom, i think there is no question the big 12 has the best coaches.
