I'd love some advice here.

I have an old macbook I am trying to get running better.

1) It runs fine with a keyboard plugged into the USB, but the keyboard doesn't work. (I have a keyboard I bought from ebay.)

2)It doesn't work unless it's plugged in. I assumed the battery was out, so I bought a new one from ebay.

I haven't tried disconnecting the battery yet because one time the computer didn't boot up, and that's while it was plugged in. I'd like to back up some of it and then sell it.

Suggestions on how to proceed from here, including what to sell it for and where to sell it.

It's a standard macbook like this one.

I have 4 computers, I don't need 2 laptops and I have a PC and an old macintosh.

I just sold one on eBay with no hard drive, no RAM, and a broken logic board for $200.

It was totally non-mission capable.

The RAM was operational though - I sent it to a user here for free.

...the main problem I'm concerned with is installing the keyboard. I think that's the issue. If not, maybe someone can help me troubleshoot from there?

Edit. I write this because I cannot find youtube video on how to change the entire keyboard out from the macbook... am I missing something?

Search around on iFixit.com for a tutorial on teardown for that specific model. Make sure you search by model number. They are extremely easy to work on.

My current MacBook Pro is a 13" I converted to run a dual drive setup with no optical drive. The OS screams off the SSD.

Why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam?

I still didn't do the keyboard. I guess that'll come later this weekend. Any help or advice on how to go about it would be appreciated.

The ZIF slots on the motherboard where the keyboards connect are very fragile. I suggest you find a video about how to service the unit without damaging that piece.

I'm terrified of touching it. I wish I knew someone who could work on these things. I've yet to do it because I've never worked on a macbook.

The video showed you how to do it, so, man up, stop crying, and do it!

If you don't have the balls to do it, stop whining about it. You won't mess up if you just take your time. Follow what the dude was telling you about the screws and make sure you don't have any static in your body.

Just make sure to look at the zif slots and find a small tool that you think will work...they won't break unless you manhandle them.

Otherwise, take it to someone and pay them to do it.

Man the hell up! Just some tough love from me.

You cannot learn unless you try, and if you screw up...you have three others.

I know bro. I was just asking. I'm sort of a computer hoarder. I still like that one, but I have a pro. So why do I need it? I could pay someone to fix it, or I could do it. I've just not had time for either. I'm just now getting a couple days off.

Thanks for the tough love. I was hoping for a written walk-me-through, but casmith gave me a spot for that.
