Terrell Owens' tenure in the Indoor Football League came to an unceremonious end Tuesday when the Allen Wranglers released the controversial former NFL receiver.
“
It's disappointing and unfortunate, but (he) could no longer be tolerated by the Wrangler organization.
”
-- Allen Wranglers owner Jon Frankel
on releasing Terrell Owens
Owens signed with the Wranglers in February, receiving a six-figure salary and an ownership stake in the franchise located about 30 minutes north of Dallas. Owner Jon Frankel said that Owens' ownership stake has been terminated because he violated his contract.
Frankel cited Owens' refusal to play in two upcoming road games that are critical to the Wranglers' playoff hopes and Owens' no-show for a scheduled appearance at a local children's hospital as the breaking points in the team's relationship with the receiver.
"Our fans are amongst the best in the league, and it is impossible to maintain a player when even our fans notice and comment on a player's lack of effort both on and off the field," Frankel said in a statement released to ESPNDallas.com. "We need to do what is best for this team, our fans and this community."
Owens, who was not required to play in all of the Wranglers' road games, could not be immediately reached for comment.
Owens
The 37-year-old Owens, whose tenures with the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys all ended acrimoniously, had hoped that playing for the Wranglers could help him get back in the NFL. He received no interest from NFL teams last season despite ranking second all-time in receiving yards (15,934), fourth in touchdowns (156) and sixth in catches (1,078).
Owens played one season each for the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals after being released by the Cowboys following the 2008 season despite being one year into a four-year, $34 million contract extension. He caught 72 passes for 983 yards and nine touchdowns for the Bengals in 2010.
After Owens recovered from knee surgery to repair a torn ACL he suffered after the 2010 season, agent Drew Rosenhaus organized a nationally televised workout to prove his client was healthy. No scouts attended the workout.
Owens caught 35 passes for 420 yards and 10 touchdowns in eight games for the Wranglers.
"It's disappointing and unfortunate," Frankel said of releasing Owens, "but (he) could no longer be tolerated by the Wrangler organization."
D-Bag....
So, Should we sign him? :D

Hey, at 34, he had the body of a 17 year old. So that means, at 37, he has a body of a 20 year old.
Heck, he can definitely play into his 50's.

He might have the body of a 17 or 20 year old but he has the mind and emotions of a toddler. I give him about 12 years old, on a good day.

I just wanted to quote you because you have Iron Maiden in your sig. Up the Irons! Number of The Beast was recently voted greatest Brit album of the last 60 years. And to stay on topic, T.O. could always go back to the whiners and play with Moss.

I didn't see an IFL zone so I put it in Fan zone. But how does he get cut when he is part owner.
Should Dallas look into getting him as WR3? :lmao:

He still could be a productive receiver in this league. Not for our team, but a team in general. If I were the Bucs I would roll the dice for the fifth time and see if I can't get a nice possession receiver at the vet minimum.

I think it is only a matter of time before TO is the subject of some very sad headlines. TO craves attention and wants to be in the spotlight. He is at the point of his life that his football career is over and he will not be able to cope with being a regular guy. I think he will hurt himself in some way due to depression caused by his situation. I will not be surprised if it happens within the next year or two.

I hope that does not come about, I don't want to see anyone get to that point. However taking your life over that? Hell most of us have gone through hard times, we never had a day in the spot light we bust our humps to make ends meet and deal with the same tragedy of losing family and friends as anyone else, yet most of us manage to move on with our lives.
Many of these athletes and stars have had life served on a silver platter made money most of us can only dream of, hard for me to feel sorry

I remember when the Cowboys first signed T.O. I remember how many Cowboys fans were convinced he would change and how his past problems were media-created. I remember how many of us said where there's smoke, there's usually fire. We were told we were haters. Then when Ed Werder reported T.O. was causing problems in the locker room, many Cowboys fans thought it was Ed Werder being Ed Werder, making stuff up.
Well, we later learned that Werder's reports had some validity to them. The Cowboys jettison T.O. And now many who were for T.O. when he was a Cowboy suddenly discovered that he was all the things his history said he was.
Again, beware when people have a history of particular issues that those people can simply change at will or change because they're a part of your favorite team.
I feel sorry for T.O. I think some of the things he faces is beyond his control. I honestly think he has a personality disorder. Nevertheless, he is who he is, and he's shown it at every stop in his professional football career.
Let this be a lesson to the Cowboys that if a player has persistent problems, those problems aren't going to disappear just because they come to Valley Ranch.

Garrett seems to stress a certain make up of a player he wants on this team. I'll gladly give up a little talent for a guy who you can count on and who will be a productive memeber of the team and bust his rear for his teammates.

I hope that I am wrong, but he has always come across as a person that has to be in the spotlight to feel happy. Attention, wheather good or bad, has always fueled TO. I think he has some major self image problems behind his public image that should be treated with therapy. It is not normal for a person to always want to be the center of attention.

He has the means to get such help. I'm sorry I watch avg people struggle through life and seem to get knocked down and get back up and have gone through some of that myself like most of us have at one point or another. This guy needs the attention? deal with it if you can't go see someone.

I remember y-e-a-r-s before Dallas signed Terrell Owens, how some stated many times on the old DMN boards, that he should never be a Cowboy under any and all circumstances. Yet it happened anyway.
Thankfully, that totally avoidable nonsense is now a part of the past. If fate is kind, Owens' tenure here will fade away from the memories of this franchise's fans. I am hopeful that blessing shall become reality one day. Or, at least for me personally. :)

Terrell Owens cannot be tolerated, even by the Indoor Football League
Another team for Terrell Owens, and another acrimonious departure. Things never seem to end well with Owens, even with the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League.
With the Wranglers at 6-5 (http://iflstats.fbstats.pointstreak.com/football/standings.html?) and chasing a playoff spot, they've released Owens for what they're calling a "lack of effort both on and off the field." (http://www.goifl.com/news/news-archive/64-allen-wranglers/827-wranglers-release-terrell-owens) In a statement released by the team president and co-owner, Owens was said to be refusing to play in upcoming road games against the Nebraska Danger and Everett (Washington) Raptors. There was this, too:"The proverbial straw that broke the camel's back for Mr. Owens was his no-show to a scheduled appearance at a local children's hospital with other Wrangler players and coaches. It is not the desire of the Allen Wranglers' organization to disappoint fans by having our most notable player miss a scheduled appearance."
Owens will also lose his ownership stake in the team.

I wonder what in the world TO is going to do for income when his playing days are done, which they just may be as of right now.
When you are as talented a football player as TO, teams will put up with some idiosyncracies for at least awhile. But TO hasn't seemed able to grow beyond his issues no matter how many opportunities he gets to do so.

I disliked the signings of both he and Me-shawn before him, the difference being Me-shawn was controllable so long as Parcells was around, he was a prima-donna as soon as he left though, trashed the team.
This all dates back to the Joey Galloway trade, making desperate moves to get good players and paying too much.
Rocket Ismail and Terry Glenn were the second tier free agent wideouts with tier one talent that actually performed well in Dallas, and they were inexpensive.
Look at where Miles Austin came from, and briefly Laurent Robinson.
Patiently landing a Dez Bryant through the draft was the way to go all along.
