Yeah I went to the midnight screening here in Vegas. A lot of Kung Fu guys came, it was well worth it.

The Raid was awesome movie.

To me it's a must buy on blu-ray when it gets released.

But I don't think that was Kung-Fu. It's indonesian martial art http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pencak_Silat. Although that may just be arguing semantics.

Ipman, wow. That is some damn good martial arts right there. pretty much shames all other attempts at the genre now. Just exciting stuff.

I am an old school fan, Shaw, Golden Harvest, etc. Though I do enjoy the modern action and newer productions as well.

My fave old school kung fu fight scene, with 'Shaolin Monk' Gordon Liu vs Wang Lung-wei, Shaw's greatest kung fu villain. Some very nice sequences that you can see were shot without film cuts.

Yes sir. Shaw Brothers, Dragon Dynasty, etc. I love all of them. I'm a HUGE fan of Yeun Woo Ping, the action choreographer/director. Tarantino got him to do the stunts for both Kill Bills. My favorite old-school flick is easily Master of the Flying Guillotine

My favorite era is the late 80's/early 90's. Once Upon A Time in China, Legend of the Red Dragon, Fist of Legend, etc. Basically all Donnie Yen and Jet Li movies are good, imo.

Master of the Flying Guillotine was the first kung fu film I ever saw. It go me started. Was lucky enough to catch it in a downtown theater with an enthusiastic audience.

Also, Jet Li has the moves, though Chow Yun Fat has the cool. I agree with the Kangaroo that Hard Boiled was probably the pinnacle action film for him. The two shootout sequences down the long halls, seperated only by the elevator, were both shot in just one take. Brilliant choreograpy.

Nice to see all the recomendations, some of which I had missed. Got some cool viewing ahead.

My fave director/choreographer, and sometimes actor, Lau Kar-Leung, did this scene from Drunken Master 2....

My favorite Jackie Chan movies are Shaolin Wooden Men and The Fearless Hyena.

Growing up there was a theater my brother and I went to all the time that played Martial Arts movies. We would buy a ticket for the first showing and afterwards sneak into the other rooms and watch movies all day.

I am more of a Martial Arts movie fan in general. Seen a lot of bad ones as well as good martial art movies.

As a kid I use to love Kung Fu theater on TV. That stuff was awesome sauce growing up. The beauty of this day in age is the amount of movies that make it to the US from Asian has grown. Also the amount of American made Martial Arts movies have increased.

On a side note I actually train in a Japanese Martial Art which makes it even more enjoyable to watch because I like picking out things they do similar to what i have study it is fascinating seeing the different concept used in various arts.

Growing up in a house where we all studied Martial Arts was fun. I'm now trying to pass it along to my kids. My son for example likes to try new pressure points on his little sister. LOL... She is good at dishing it out too so it is fun to watch them go back and forth :)

:laugh2:

What if you walked in the room one day and she was paralyzed briefly...like they do in about 60% of kung-fu movies.

Funny a lot of the pressure point ones do not work on me. We do one called yonkyo along the radial nerve in the wrist and I feel nothing. Now joint locks different story

My favorite Japanese series were the Zatoichi ones. Though I really like the Kurosawa/Mifune ones as well. There are a gazillion chambara films to choose from though. Tattooed Judge, Babycart from Hell, 47 Ronin, etc
