Good for him. He could use the good publicity. He's getting bad press regarding his divorce.

This is one of those things thats always been really great about John. Pretty amazing that he's granted that many wishes.

I still don't get why so many people (wrestling fans) don't like him. He does things the right way, reverences his sport, and is good a on mic.

I know what you mean. I've always been a fan of him.
I liked him going back to his days on the West Coast when he was running the Prototype character, before even going to OVW (The WWE training league).
ALways been a fan and I'm a bigger fan now days because of how cool a guy he is and you can just see how much he respects wrestling and all that goes into it.
Sometimes his character gets boring for me, and I don't always like the way he's booked, but that goes with any wrestler to be honest.

I think he's ok on the mic. Generally though to me his promos go on way too long. So do many others! I am thinking of one in particular I just watched a few days ago that I taped from a few weeks ago with John Lauranitis. Cena kept getting in his ear saying LOSER. It was just really bad. He had some good stuff with Rock but nothing lately to me.

IMO a lot of his vanilla mic work in the last several years is do a great deal to his gimmick. The character they've got him being doesn't lend itself to a whole lot of great mic work or edgy mic work.
I've seen this guy cut his promos when he had a lot more leeway and he used to be pretty dang good on the mic when they'd let him go.

That one promo is on my mind because it's the one I just watched. I am behind several shows but in that one John looked really bad. I don't know if they told him to do that or he was just ab-libbing but it was bad! He was acting really stupid. Got several shows to catch up on & I am hoping it gets better. Maybe his personal situation is wearing on him. He is being accused of being a really rotten guy by his soon to be ex.

I'm not sure if the article is meant to be taken as straight fact but it says that he never says "no".
That in itself is truly noteworthy.
Always willing.
And for anyone who has had experience around the kids he sees, it should be obvious how important that is to them.

Actually, Cena cracks me up, and I was enjoying his schtick when that moron Jericho came out...
If you wanna talk about a wrestler with no real ability and no real charisma, it's Jericho... he's a one trick pony on the mic, all he has is "I'm better than you plebeians"... he also tells us how he's the best in the world at what he does, then goes out and loses another big match...

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one, there is no one wrestler that I dislike more than Jericho... I long ago grew bored of his boastfulness, and his "plebeian" schtick... he's been doing the same act for YEARS...
I actually like him better in the ring than on the mic... the thing is, I know he could do better work on the mic, as I've heard him on a radio show that my nephew likes, featuring Nikki Sixx and Casey Kasem's daughter (can't think of her first name right now), and found him entertaining and amusing...
But like I said, he's been doing the same tired crapola for years now...

Oh I couldn't disagree more.
Jericho is great on the mic.
He's better in a face role, and doing sophmoric type humor, but he's gold, IMO, as face or heel.

In WWE's latest update of financial indicators, the number of buys for WrestleMania has dropped to about 1,150,000, after originally being projected at 1.3 million. They are still about 100,000 buys ahead of the 2011 show but the bloom is kind of coming off of the rose here.
The Elimination Chamber show only did about 170,000 buys, way down from the ~300,000 that it did a few years ago. It looks like the once-promising concept has been hurt by the lack of legitimate top tier talents entering the two main matches.
Extreme Rules, featuring the WWE PPV return of Brock Lesnar, is holding at about 250,000 buys, which would be around a 20% improvement over the previous year's show.
The early number for May's Over The Limit show is about 150,000 buys, which would be its lowest number of the last three years.

He’s corny.
I think most wrestling fans view him as a good person in real life, but his character is very corny and his wrestling skills leave a lot to be desired.
Personally, I view most over faces in wrestling as corny. Whether it be Hogan, Sting, etc. Very few faces that were over that were not corny (IMO) like Steamboat, Magnum TA and Andre. But the real value of those corny faces is that they made me become a fan and appreciate the really good heels even more. Hogan had Piper, Sting had Vader and Flair. Cena had Punk (who has now become corny himself as he’s a face, but he’s made me appreciate Daniel Bryan).
I just think it’s unwise when fans think Cena should turn heel. He’s too big of a draw and merchandise seller. If he’s ever to turn heel, it should be when he is struggling to sell merch and it should be a massive deal for the WWE.
Anyway, my congratulations goes out to John for doing such a fantastic job.

I didn't get the humor or the point in the promo Monday. Last time I thought he did a good one was during the WM buildup & he had the best in Rock to bounce off of. I will give him his due for those & of course he's very giving & charitable with his free time.
I really like Jericho! He is not my favorite but let's just say fine with me if Brock stays gone forever & they let Chris do his music & come back whenever he wants.

ok YR..you mentioned Vader. Being a newcomer to wrestling really was he a good wrestler. Hard to tell in what I saw on that RAW..to be honest he looked like an older really heavy guy. I haven't had time to look for his matches but I have heard his name before. I gather at the peak of his career he was very good. He's a BIG man!

Watch him in his WCW and Japan days. He was this indestructable monster who just mauled wrestlers beautifully and could do moonsaults perfectly and bump like a champ. He was also a really good worker. Sorry Flair fans, but Vader carried Flair around in their matches.
He had some issues coming into the WWF:
1. He was getting out of shape and older.
2. He was former title holder and monster in WCW, so coming over to the WWF meant that Vince was probably going to either bury him or make him look weak...something Vince loved to do with former WCW champs coming over to his company.
3. Vince generally has never been good at pushing fat guys as legit champions.
4. He wasn't well liked by the wrestlers because he worked stiff and was known as a pain in the arse to travel with.
5. Shawn Michaels hated him and back then, whatever Shawn wanted he got.
Probably the closest thing to Vader I can think of recently was the late Umaga. A guy who was a great monster who looked devastating in squash matches, but could also work a great match against wrestlers in the big matches that had to go 10-25 minutes long. Vader had a much better moveset though, with powerbombs, second rope splash, moonsault, chokeslam, etc.

I will check him out. Thanks for the info. I know they are bringing back these older wrestlers and you know just seeing him on the RAW all I saw was a really big guy.
One more question. Humor me. I am learning..what do you guys mean when you say they worked stiff? I am guessing that means opponents got hurt too much against certain guys?

Yes. When a wrestler hits hard or executes a move that hits hard, they call that ‘working stiff.’
Vader was known for that. He also legit paralyzed a wrestler with a powerbomb and when they were both in WCW, really hurt Mick Foley with a powerbomb…although it was done on the cement floor at Foley’s request.

Mick is a crazy man. How is that guy able to walk? I know he told Taker to throw him off the cage in that classic match. Nuts! Well I guessed right about working stiff. Thanks for clarifying that.. I definitely can see that with a huge guy like Vader that he would be really strong.
I wonder if Big Show isn't the same. I don't see much in him wrestling wise & he's so big.

He also broke Foleys nose, punching him, in a match they had and Vader was the guy Foley was facing in Germany (i believe that's where it was) when they did the spot where Foley would get hung between the top and middle rope, and his feet would dangle outside of the ring. It gave off the impression that he was being hung and choking.
Now the kicker is that on that particular night the ropes had been tighten, far more than usual, at the request of one of the wrestlers because they felt the ropes were too loose for one of their spots earlier in the show.
However management and company failed to inform Mick of this so when he did the spot he really was in big trouble. When he forced his head out from between the the ropes, which were reported very tight around his neck, it ripped his right ear off.

Somehow I can imagine Mick losing an ear in a match..ouch! On a similar note about ears when Punk was on "Ghost Hunters" a few years ago they said he was either partially or completely deaf in one ear. I presumed that is due to wrestling.

Yeah he was great during that time. Of course that was during a face run while he was doing his silly, sophmoric, type of humor, which is when he's at his best.
But I'm just a huge Jericho fan. I'll admit that so it makes me somewhat bias to his work in the first place.
I've been a huge fan since his ECW and WCW days.

i am a fan of Cena....and I know he is a better wrestler than he displays....too bad the WWE would rather he be a brawler...cause he would really show some wrestling prowess. I miss his thuganomics days though, but I understand that he had to evolve. I liked how they brought it back for his buildup with the Rock. I would like to see him change his music though, never liked the current intro. I would also like to see him sell the bumps a bit more. He seems to take a lot of punishment, but comes back like nothing happened (though his selling has gotten so much better than it was 5 years ago).
The guy lives the WWE. He gives everything he has. He is great on the mic, great in the ring, and goes out of his way for the fans. He absolutely supports and respects our Armed Forces. He goes out of his way for the kids. He is the closest thing the WWE has seen to compare to Hulkamania.
Thanks to the Rock, I have a name for Cena fans.....Fruity Pebbles.
I consider myself a Fruity Pebble. He is definitely my favorite wrestler in the WWE right now....now that Stone Cold, HBK, the Rock, and The Nature Boy are all gone.

I'm not a fan of Cena, but I hardly watch pro wrestling anymore.
One thing Biggems has right is that Cena does give 100% on just about every match I see him in. It may not be great in execution, but it's an all out effort.
I think fans should appreciate that having grown up a fan in an era where the top star babyfaces would routinely take nights off and not only refuse to job to people, but not even sell. And that was almost regardless of how over their opponent was.
I can't tell you how many times I watched Bret Hart phone it in. Hogan was flat out ridiculous to watch and almost made me give up on watching American pro wrestling for good. Even in the years of ECW, guys like Taz were phoning it in with super quick squash matches where they didn't have to bump.
If a Cena match is poor, I know it's not due to lack of effort or him begrudging his opponent and not willing to put him over.
