View Full Version : Staff Change

Two times in the past I have tried to step down from the staff and I got talked into staying. Once we even had a Roast and I enjoyed that very much. Yesterday however my resignation was finally accepted. I am stepping down today.

There will be a lot of speculation about this because I am a lightning rod of discussion, not just here but other places. There will be all kinds of theories posited and the huge majority of them will be wrong. I'm not angry at anyone on the Staff. No one has driven me away from this. I just feel after 10 years that I have done enough and I want to be a regular Joe poster again.

This Staff is the greatest bunch of people I have ever worked with. Not just the current Moderators, but Pops and some of the others who put in their time and stepped down for various reasons. I love and respect them all. I have been behind the scenes here for a long time. Please listen to me when I say these people care about you. You may think some of them hate you. It isn't at all true. I am going to miss being a part of their forums and the behind the scenes discussions and ribbing that goes on. I could thank them here one by one, but I am going to refrain from doing that so I can keep this short.

I especially want to thank Reality for the trust he has put in me. I wish you all could get to know him on a personal level as I have. What he provides us here is simply put the greatest fan forum in the world. We don't have the internal issues that other forums do. I don't want to go into why they will never be as successful as this forum is, but they never will be. I do want to say Reality deserves a lot of the credit for why those internal issues do not happen here. He believes I am making a mistake. Maybe I am, but my heart is at peace with this. I left open the door to one day help the Staff again down the road if they need me.

I'm not going anywhere. I will remain a member here and I intend to keep posting. I just won't be doing the job here. If I have a regret in stepping down it is that the threads I was handling in the History Zone and the Calendar items might become outdated. Hopefully someone on the Staff will allow me to PM them the things that needed updating and they keep going. I won't miss having to police the forum. The only bans I ever enjoyed were Spammers and Redskins or Eagles trolls.

I'm really looking forward to using the Ignore feature. Conversely a bunch of people will finally be able to put me on Ignore. Now and then someone announces when they have someone on Ignore. I don't intend to do that. It serves no purpose. But I am going to heed my own advice and use it.

Thanks for all you do in making this place the best Internet fan forum in the world. Go Cowboys.

I am very sad about this, but I understand your reasons for this decision. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for everything you have done over the years! It will truly be a different world without you on the staff.

You will be missed!

Glad you are staying around as "Joe Poster" but your presence will be greatly missed behind the scenes and keeping this place sane.

God bless you my friend and thanks for all the time and effort you have sacrificed for us over the years. :starspin

On your way out could you change mine one last time?

I haven't been a member here for very long, as you well know, so I never got the chance others have had to get to know you better as a Moderator, Hos. What I have known of you is that you've been welcoming, helpful, quick to respond to PMs, and generally great-natured on the boards ... willing to engage new posters in threads to help them (me) grow into the CowboysZone family.

Thanks for all you've done to help this site grow to be the best there is, even though I can't possibly know what all that includes. Appears to have been a whole lot, judging by what I've seen and read of your efforts.

I look forward to more of your threads, posts and discussions in the future. You many want to slide back into being a "Regular Joe" poster, Hos, but I don't think that'll ever be the case. I don't pretend to know all of who or what you ARE, but just a Regular Joe you most definitely are NOT.

I enjoyed battling with the only poster than can sort of handle going head to head with me. Hopefully you wont put me on ignore and we can go debate in the future.

But if Romo brings home some jewelry, I guess we'll finally be on the same page. None the less, is there a way we can bring Nors back? BTW and off the subject, Woodysgirl, who's in the avatar pic?

No, seriously, I've never put anyone on ignore, not even Clove, because I figure if I don't like something they've said or think it ignorant, I don't have to respond to it.

For the most part, you and I have agreed when it comes to the Cowboys and, although I haven't always agreed with you in how you responded to some who disagree with you, I have a lot of respect for your many contributions to this board.

Hope you enjoy just being one of us "little guys."

6 years ago, Hos came to NY and we went to the NFL draft together. He stayed in NY for three days and pointed at every building and asked, "Is that the one that King Kong climbed?"

It was pretty annoying.

But he more than made up for that by constantly getting stuck in revolving doors...threatening to cheer for the Red Sox when we were at Yankee Stadium...asking for barbecue sauce at one of the finest Italian restaurants in NYC...trying to trip Mike Golic as he walked past us...and being totally rude to one of my close friends, Irv.

All in all, it was pretty annoying.

Oh, right, this was supposed to be a tribute.

...uhm...as a Wise Old Cowboy once said "Mike who?" :D

Uhm, I am proud to state a little known fact... Mike and I are related in an indirect way...I'm fooling around with his wife.

;)

For those who are unaware, that would be approximately the entire site because he never boasted about his efforts, the amount of time and energy Hos invested into this site, is one of the main reasons for its success.

The Zone, as you know it, is in large part a reflection of Mike's passion, creativity and love for quality.

That said, it's time for his next project/creative endeavor.

Hos, you had a strong run.
I can attest to how much more fun things can be as a poster.

The ignore feature alone is worth gold.
You can get around much of the petty stuff that way and banter with only those you know can handle it and bring something to the discussion.

Short-term ignores work wonders for getting past contentious subjects.

Hope you enjoy being a regular joe around here as much as I have.

I suspect he's been a mod elsewhere as have others here. It's a lot more fun not to have to watch over things and if I were a mod here I'd be much more subdued with my posting and never be confrontational in public. There's benefits in being part of the crowd.

I still have nightmares about that revolving door at Macy's.

You'd still be there if it wasn't for me.

Congratulations are in order...

FIrst to Hos...It was never an easy job but you handled it well and your promotion was well deserved.

Second to WoodysGirl...Why you needed the added punishment is beyond me but the Admin role is in your most capable hands now and I am thankful for that.

Thank you Hos. I appreciate all you've done. Thanks to Reality and all those who continue to serve on staff. It is a great forum.

I'd like to just echo this.

Best of luck with your free time. Stick around sir.

It's a dark day for this rforum, but I console myself with the knowledge you'll still be around...

If it's what you feel is best for you, then I support your decision...

I know. I was here when you joined. Hos and I both go back to the forum before the last forum.

I was talking about jterrel's comment. Sorry I should have quoted it.

Hey, that crossed my mind. If we win, the last 15 years are my fault.

:D

And here I've been blaming Jerry all this time.

Not gonna be quite the same around here. Thanx Hos for all the effort you put in over the years to make this the best Cowboys board on the net.

Good luck as as Joe Poster. Thanks for everything you have done and you will be sorely missed as admin but WG was a good choice for a replacement. Have they asssigned you to any particular parole officer yet?

Thanks for all you have done for the site and for me. You are one of the big reasons I stayed on the site after I got pretty tired of it. But this is a great place, enjoy the freedom.

Also to all the other mods, you all do a great job as well.

TooHostile, the absence of your influence as a mod/admin will be evident.

Thanks for the hard work over the last decade, you and the admin staff are big reason a lot of us still bother to come back here and you all deserve a pat on the back. I'm not talking about the "being a moderator" type posts either.

After ten plus years of seeing your name in red, its kinda weird seeing it in blue.

Glad you're going to hang around a while as JAG, it'll be fun :).

This place has never been sane, and never will be... that's why I call it home...
