Don't be surprised when Cowboys put QB in financial territory of Drew Brees

So many of y'all can't stand Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, for a myriad of reasons.

Some valid, some ridiculous.

Those of you who think the Cowboys will never win a title with Romo at the helm had better get used to the idea that he's going to end his career wearing a blue star on the side of his helmet.

Jerry Jones loves him. So does Jason Garrett.

They should.

Romo is among the NFL's best quarterbacks, no matter which standard you choose to judge them. We all understand he's not in the top group with Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and a couple of others.

But he's certainly on the next level with players such as Philip Rivers, Michael Vick and Joe Flacco.

And that's why you shouldn't be shocked by Romo's next contract -- the one that's going to provide him with about $25 million guaranteed in the first season.

I say give him Jeremy Lin's contract but be careful of the luxury tax. :)

Flacco is in the last year of his Rookie contract and is in negotiations with the Ravens. I expect to pay Tony Romo about what he ends up making for Baltimore.

I believe Tony can be an effective QB to around 36. I wouldn't trust giving him a big contract after 37.

That gives us 4 good years with him. But get his eventual replacement in by 2014 or 15.

If a quarterback doesn't win a Super Bowl by 34, he almost certainly isn't going to do it.

Tell that to John Elway

This man disagrees with this ignorant comment.

lets put it in perspective. John Elway had two super bowl appearances, MVP of Super Bowl and two Pro Bowl appearances in same time frame as Romo lone playoff victory. To put it politely - Romo isn't even on same planet as Elway was after six years as starter.

Elway went on to play in total of 5 super bowls and 9 pro bowls. Lets atleast wait until romo get past second round before we start throwing his name around with the greats.

Staubach too.

Unitas too.

Brad Johnson?

And really, Warner did everything humanly possible to win it a few years ago. His defense just couldn't hold a lead.

Well, yea he is. But if he's not, why would we expect him to get Drew Brees money. That logic seems a bit awkward to me :laugh2:

The funny thing is, if Romo wins a Super Bowl, he'll be thrust into that same "elite" group that we keep hearing he currently doesn't belong in.

We'll hear all kinds of garbage about how NOW Romo gets it! He finally learned how to be clutch, finally learned how to be a leader, etc etc etc.

Because it's easier for the media to paint that picture than it is for them to say, "Whoops, our bad. We were dead wrong to underrate this guy for all these years, we were wrong to use his team's failures to judge his worth as a QB (because we're illogical morons who don't realize football's a team sport), and he just shoved it down our collective pie-holes."

After Dallas wins the Superbowl either this year or next they will shut up about Romo not being an elite QB.
