Clarence Hill

1. Keep an eye on rookie receiver Tim Benford. He had a strong rookie training camp and looked good on Monday, catching everything that came his way. Cole Beasley has gotten a lot of attention among the young guys and he should for his eye-opening play but Benford has been every bit as good if not better.

2. The Cowboys were high on undrafted rookie guard Ron Leary, touting him as a possible mid round draft pick if not for a degenerative knee condition. The issue with Leary is that his career could be cut short at some point, which killed his draft stock, but he is considered good to go as rookie. The Cowboys wasted little time getting him in the mix, alternating him and David Arkin with the first team in place of the injured Mackenzy Bernadeau.

3. Fullback Lawrence Vickers is going to bring much needed toughness and leadership to the Cowboys locker room. The sight of him cursing out TCU ex Ed Wesley for not finishing a play by not running down the field for a touchdown was new for the Cowboys. This team has a history of leaders trying to be friends and not wanting to make waves rather than giving their teammates a much needed kick in the behind.

Vickers is already becoming a favorite of mine.

Vickers is already becoming a favorite of mine.

I was a pretty big Tony Fiammetta fan, but I was happy about the Vickers signing.

While none of the receivers other than Dez or Miles might be an elite guy right now, I'm interested to see if one or two of these young guys can develop to be a considerable 3 and/or 4.

Our wide receiver situation is a lot better than people think. Most teams don't have a #1 guy let alone two #1s at WR, wondering who the 3rd guy is (not to mention having a #1 type receiver at tight end...)

Exactly! Got took to the woodshed would have been a better expression.

You'd think he would've known to use the more appropriate, "tooken." ;)

Got tooken to the woodshed. Using "Got" means "took" needs to be used in the Perfect Form (indicating a completed action)... so, "Got tooken..." Just has a better ring to it. :D

I really like Fiammetta, when healthy and probably preferred him from "bird in the hand" perspective on his chemistry with Murray. But his health was a bit concerning so I get the move to Vickers.

I'm still cautious til I see the whole unit in action. But certainly hopeful.
