OXNARD, Calif. – Cowboys rookie cornerback Morris Claiborne took his lumps in his first practice Monday while attempting to defend Dez Bryant, Kevin Ogletree and other seasoned receivers, but the Cowboys liked the overall performance of the sixth overall draft pick.
“He competed very well,” fellow starting corner Brandon Carr said Tuesday. “He may have given up some plays, but, at the same time, he came back and made plays. That’s going to be the growing pains, ups and downs of a rookie corner in this league. But he’s in the fire. The good thing about him is he’s eager to learn and more than willing to go out there and compete.”
Carr said it’s good that the Cowboys haven’t wasted anytime giving Claiborne a baptism by fire.
