And in the interview Ratliff did with Smokey, both acknowledged that he was cleared to practice (this interview was a couple days ago).
Not sure what the real story is.

same old same old
"He will be back tomorrow"
"He will be back next month"
Now he is on IR.
Hopefully not with Ratliff anyway.

One of the players I'm really tired of.
I really think it's time to move forward from Ratliff. He has been trending down the last few years, and can't stay healthy.
We should have signed Aubrayo Franklin instead. Now we can't even do that. Hopefully one of these young bucks steps up.

What's the technical difference between being listed as "on the PUP list" verses being listed as "Out Indefinitely"?

With Ratliff it's a precautionary thing. They don't want to put to much on him and reaggravate the the foot when they don't need to.

There is the preseason PUP for football related injuries. You can be placed on that prior to a player practicing. They can come back at any time in the preseason. But they can't practice then go on PUP. Players can be placed on the PUP for the regular season but must stay there for 6 weeks. There is then a 3 week window to be activated and another 3 week window once they start practicing to be put on the active roster.

It sounds like a juggling act, with some real risk involved. How thin are we on both DL and OL?

Same thing that occurred to me.
Franklin was on the street for months waiting to be signed.
And if this is the plantar fasciitis thing again with Ratliff, the Cowboys have no excuses for not being better prepared.

No way we can know what's going on with his foot. We're just going to have to wait and see.
I think the DL will be ok even if Rat is out for awhile.
I have no idea about the interior of the OL. We'll know after a few games kinda where we stand. I'd only be wildly guessing about who is coming and going and starting on the OL other than the Ts.

somehow indefinitely does not sound like a precaution

Isn't his injury need just rest to heal ?
With a vet like Rat....shouldn't we just let him rest as much as he can?
I rather have a rusty Rat at nose at the beginning of the year then push him now and risk that the injury will flare up again and miss the start of the season.
It won't take Rat long to be in game mode IMHO

To be honest if Ratliff misses time I'm not worried. Lissemore has the same quick burst as Ratliff and Coach Baker admitted to the media this offseason that he needs to play him more.
Brent in the base 3-4 will be fine, he actually can play two-gap responsibility properly and did it well last season. His knee injury limited him quite a bit last season so the worry is that he stays healthy this year. If he does he should be another break-out player this season.

Here is a still of him 2-gapping - Notice his pad level is lower than Baas'.

Look at him maintain position and wait for Jacobs. Lee is waiting as well - this play is as good as dead because Jacobs really has nowhere to despite Spears being on the ground.

Jacobs tries to cut the left side A-gap and Brent has him dead to rights, and Lee and Coleman swallow him up.
