Notes:

-- More back and forth from the offensive and defensive lines. Today, o-line coach Bill Callahan worked his guys on a hippity-hoppity pass blocking drill. On Monday I pointed out that d-line coach Brian Baker drills his guys on working free from a two-handed punchout and on ways to get around the linemen. Today, Callahan taught an antidote to this move. He has his linemen practice countering rushes where the d-lineman gets his hands inside and gains initial leverage. The defender tried to grab the o-lineman's jersey and pull him downwards, knocking him off-balance.

The o-linemen practiced hopping backwards on their first two steps, to break free from the downward pull. They would t hen dig in and hold their ground. It's been an informative two days, and the offensive line appears to be getting a more thorough preparation from Callahan than they have in years past.

That last sentence intrigues me quite a bit because Vela has been going to Training Camp practices since 2010.

Do work Coach Callahan!

In this two week ordeal, pads come on today. And it just gets better...

Sometimes it appears to be an episode of Restaraunt Impossible where they come in with something unexpected just to make it harder...

I like the organization and directions being used to set tone and effort by the team. I don't see any resemblance of a 'marshmellow' tone anywhere. That has to be paying off.:)

Hand fighting and leverage fighting between O and D lines are very similar to martial arts.
