Years ago, I was taking a drum class along with a music teacher. The guy was a Kodaly trained instructor. In after class coffee bull sessions, he had some very interesting points.
In the Hungarian school system, they view the most important teachers as kindergarten and 1st and 2nd grade, as that sets the base for all other subsequent learning. Well over half the public schools also have intensive early music instruction.
By the end of the first grade, every Hungarian student is expected to be able to sight-sing most any piece of music they can read. This is not because every student is expected to become a music prodigy, but due to the demonstrable evidence that early music training boosts science, math, cognitive development, etc.
Wooten's pretty much pushing a similar sort of thing here. Let them play!
