PaperBlog – This morning more than 30 trucks filled with 5-cent coins arrived at Apple’s headquarters in California. Initially, the security company that protects the facility said the trucks were in the wrong place, but minutes later, Tim Cook (Apple CEO) received a call from Samsung CEO explaining that they will pay $1 billion dollars for the fine recently ruled against the South Korean company in this way.

I read about this the other day. There is no doubt in my mind this is a hoax.

First off, Samsung couldn't procure that many nickels and no bank would even try. I doubt there are twenty billion US nickels in existence.

The funny part is that the signed document does not specify a single payment method, so Samsung is entitled to send the creators of the iPhone their billion dollars in the way they deem best.

$1 billion in nickels would be 20 billion nickels. Nickels weight 5 grams each. If you calculate that, that would be 2 million tons of nickels. If a semi can carry 22 tons of cargo, it would take 90,900+ semi to carry 20 billion nickels. That is a whole lot more than 30 trucks. :)

I'm guessing the story was created some where outside the US and they probably didn't realize our 5 cent coin has a name. Some countries it does not and is just referred to in that way.
