Hit the Road, Hunter

Hit the Road, Hunter (http://blog.theboys.com/?p=92)

The Cowboys have expressed hope that rehabbing CB Pete Hunter could fill the hole at FS for them next year. Hunter is not interested. His agent told the Dallas Morning News Wednesday that the former fifth round pick wants to be a starter at corner (http://blog.theboys.com/www.cowboysplus.com/topstorync/stories/042005cpcowbriefs.1f406545c.html/). The agent has talked to Arizona and Jacksonville about a possible trade.

If we could luck into a fifth-or sixth round pick for this guy, I'd gladly take it. He's only proven to be a marginal talent, though he does have a nice physical build. But if he doesn't want to be here and feels he's entitled to a starting positions, then as the title to this article suggests, hit the road.

He's a really nice, humble guy, too. So I find this somewhat surprising and certainly out of character. I have a feeling he's getting some shady advice from outside sources. In all my encounters with him, he has never shown to be a guy who gets out of bed and thinks to himself stuff like this.

Probably his agent

He acts as if he's being slighted.

We gave him his shot and he wasn't impressive. Granted he didn't get a full season, but nothing he's shown me gives me hope that he can be a starter in this league.

for a guy coming off an ACL injury, i'm very surprised.

is just positioning for next year. If he could get real trade interest this year, I'm sure we'd listen, but in all reality, he's going to sign his offer and either be a safety or a nickel back for Dallas. Next year, though, when he's trying to get a contracts, he'll be able to say he's always viewed himself a starter at CB, and that he's leaving Dallas b/c he was unhappy they were not giving him a chance to start.

Dallas did right by him last year when they were willing to sit tight with him as a starter. Obviously, they're not going to do the same thing with him coming back from a knee reconstruction. He has to know that.

I think the guy's a good player, and it's annoying to hear that we don't have any depth at the position w/ last year's season starter, 4th rd pick, and season finisher all coming off the bench behind Henry.

Another perfect example of a player held over from the previous regime. Guys like Hunter won't get any slack from Bill Parcells.

Good Luck where ever he lands.

we'll draft a guy and tell Hunter adios. i don't care where he gets the idea he's a starter, but i want a hungry player not someone i know while whine and pout and possibly not give it 110%...

I agree with Dale, this sounds out of character. I met Pete in Minnesota last year and he was real cool to my son and seemed very down to earth. Seemed to appreciate the fact that someone actually recognized him.

I think this has more to do with Hunter wanting a shot at corner. I don't believe he stated he was entitled to start. My take is that he really wants to play CB and not Safety.

Where is he whining and pouting? Could it be that this is the very hunger that you state you want in a player? As I said in another post, it sounds to me that the guy really wants to play CB and wants a shot a doing so. Is he saying anything that isn't true? Look at who is in front of him and the money they paid him.

Whining or brashness, I don't get why he's making noise. I don't see why any other team would place much value on him, whereas here he seems to have a legitimate shot at nickel corner or starting FS, in addition to being first in line to backup the outside corner spots. Seems like a good chance to build his value for a new contract here or somewhere else next year.

He is making noise because he is human. Sounds like to me he wants to play CB and just wants to get an opportunity to play it.

Well, the team obviously doesn't think he can play corner, or they wouldn't have paid so much money to get one. He needs to accept that and do what's best for the team now. Afterall, we took a chance on him, not vice versa.

If he proved his case at any point since he became a Cowboy, he would still be at CB. The fact is that he hasn't and we couldn't go into this year with the same situation as last year. His agent isn't doing him any favors either or else Hunter isn't listening to him. Considering he has accomplished nothing on the field, a little chat behind closed doors with BP would do more than his crying to the media.

His agent needs to be choked. Then fired. My guess is he has no clue about the situation. He just wants money, and Pete's not smart enough to see that.
