Crawford says he was worried about making roster because he 'didn't get a lot of stats'

by Carlos Mendez

Rookie defensive end Tyrone Crawford made the team, but he wasn’t so sure. He only had one sack in the preseason, to go along with five tackles and one quarterback hit.

“I didn’t get a lot of stats,” he said.

No matter. The Cowboys saw more than enough potential and production in the third-round choice out of Boise State for a spot on the 53-man roster.

But he said he was never convinced until he made it.

“It always worries me,” he said of not putting up numbers. “Even in college, if I didn’t have a good game, I’d be a little bit angry after the game. But it happens with football. I know that.”...

Crawford is going to be a good one, IMO. He will push himself as much or more than the coaches ever will, from the way this reads. Seems like the kind that won't let himself get complacent or think he's done enough to have "arrived" ... the kind that will continually be looking to improve and do more.

That's in the mold of the best of our players. I like it.

I see him playing out stronger than the departed Stephen Bowen...

I haven't seen much discussion of the Cowboys keeping both Coleman and Spears. I really thought they liked Gaithers a lot, and Spears or Coleman would be jettisoned.

I, like you, am completely shocked Coleman made the roster.

I think it came down to the fact that Geathers couldn't make plays.

When you combine that with Rat's bad foot and Spears' knee they probably felt that they needed a DL who could play a lot of snaps this year and Coleman was much more ready then either of the kids.

I'm happy they got Bass on the PS. He has got a good frame and seems to play with a lot of energy so it is worth trying to develop him. Calloway also is on the PS again and I think he has a shot next year. He was only a tick below Brent this PS and has good size to flip between NT and 5-tech

I'm thinking that both older dogs showed they could still hunt hogs...and scrap it on the carpet still.
