Continuing a whirlwind flurry of wheeling-and-dealing, the Oakland Raiders on Wednesday evening achieved their goal of securing a first-round draft choice, by trading veteran tight end Doug Jolley to the New York Jets.

In exchange for Jolley, who started 26 games in three seasons, the Raiders received the Jets' first-round choice, the 26th pick overall. Oakland had been without a first-rounder, having traded it to Minnesota as part of the package to acquire wide receiver Randy Moss from the Vikings.

It is believed that, in addition to Jolley, the Jets also received a second-round choice. The Raiders owned a pair of second-round selections, their own (38th overall), and another one (No. 47) acquired from Houston on Tuesday night in a deal that sent former first-round cornerback Phillip Buchanon to the Texans.

There have been rumors for several days that the Raiders were accumulating extra picks in an effort to use them as bargaining chips for a foray back into the first round. There had also been rumblings that Oakland was shopping Jolley -- who, like Buchanon fell out of favor with the coaching staff -- in trade discussions.

New York officials have been attempting for months to bolster the tight end position. The Jets signed restricted free agent Jeb Putzier to an offer sheet last month, but Denver kept the three-year veteran by matching the five-year deal. Anthony Becht, the Jets' starter for the past four seasons, defected to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an unrestricted free agent.

The most experienced tight end on the Jets' roster, before adding Jolley, was Chris Baker. But the three-year veteran, a third-round choice in 2002, has started just one game and posted only 34 receptions.

Jolley, 26, was the Raiders' second-round selection in 2002, and the former Brigham Young standout had 90 catches for 972 yards and five touchdowns in 47 appearances for the Raiders. Forty-five of his receptions resulted in first downs. His best season was his rookie campaign, in which he posted 32 catches for 409 yards and two touchdowns, despite starting only three games.

Raiders are spiraling -

At some point you have to draft TALENT.... Trading away all your busts at some point blows up.

I first when I read they got the #26 for Jolley, I nearly crapped myself wondering how that was possible.

I see that they're giving them a 2nd rounder in return so it's not as bad as I thought, but it seems that Jolley isn't that good of a player.

The Raiders crushed the Jets with this deal. Move up 12 spots early in the draft for Doug Jolley, a player that had fallen out of favor?

What really has to make Cowboys' fans happy is how badly the 'slurs overpaid for moving into that range.

Would anyone in their right mind give up a future 1st and 4th and a current 3rd for Doug Jolley and pick 38 in a weak draft? Apparently the Redskins would. At least value wise.

i remember jolley looked a good TE when the raiders made their LAST run at the Lombardi.

and i could see him panning out for the Jets.

i won't write this one off just yet.

4 picks in the top 3 rounds, not bad. Moss, Porter, and a good deep ball QB. Doesn't sound too bad at all. Playoffs?

i guess they get a decent TE, but i look at the big picture. less money to spend on a first rounder so they can grab Dyson. and as we all know a lot of value in that second round.

But why???
If you needed a TE and there was one sitting there in the draft.
Why not take a shot.
They could have come back to the deal later....

jolley is a good player but he's not worth all that.at 26 the jets could get a good te for alot less money.as for the raiders going to the playoffs.have you seen there defense? i don't think i'd be buying tickets just yet

What TE will be there at #26? Big Money Heath Miller will be off the board likely and there really is not much behind him In draft. Jolley is a young starting TE.

Where does Woodson get traded? I hope Redskins trade the rest of their picks in 05/06.
