It struck me that Bill knows the drop-off in talent this year is not that great after the top 7 or so, which is the same reason he moved down to get Jones last season. the same reason we've traded down in several of the last few drafts, and had reasonable success doing so.
Parcells i believe has already targeted several players in the second and third rounds. you can imagine he would like to have more than just 3 first-day picks, which is why there is no way we are giving up any of them. in fact, there is no way we are settling for only three - we'll take the best offer we get to move down from #11, and very likely trade down from THAT pick or the #20 pick also.
if we end up with the #20 as well as our #42 plus another second round and two third round picks... i could do some damage with those picks if i had done my homework, and i guarantee Parcells & Co. have done theirs!

Actually, we end up with two late first rounders, our 42 in the second . . . and more than another second round and two third round picks... like a one next year. Just wait; we are going to get filthy rich in extra picks.

I think you're right.
I think Ware is too high to draft at #11. And what if he, Johnson, Merriman and Pollack are all on the board. That has trade down written all over it. The only hindrance would be if we have a trade partner. Maybe we could snooker the Ravens for their first this year and their first next year.
Okay, okay. I know it's far-fetched, but I'd be all for trading down in this draft at both positions in the first round.

I agree.
The pass rushers are rated so close to each other that it's much better value to move down into the mid teens and then into the mid 20's with our 2nd first round pick and stock pile picks.
Merriman, Ware, Spears, Pollack, James, I'd say 2 to 3 will be available if we moved down 5-7 spots. Heck, 1 or 2 may be there at #20.
Unless someone unforseen drops to our pick at #11, I'm all for moving down. But like you said, finding someone who would want to move up may be the hard part.

I think teams are already jockying for the move up.

I think the most likely candidates of us trading with are the Texans or Chiefs. I think the Texans swap picks with us and take someone like Merriman (assuming he is still on the board). I think the Chiefs may try and trade with us and take Thomas Davis. Of course that doesn't rule out the possibilities of someone else like the Eagles or even Denver trying to strike a deal with us.
I don't believe though we will make a selection with the #11 or #20 pick, the Cowboys will come out of day one with more than 3 selections thanks to some draft day trades.

The Texans just traded a 2nd and 3rd to Oakland, if anything they will be trading DOWN now.
SD is the key to us trading down from #11. It becomes much more likely if they trade up to beat us to Merriman/Ware.
Detroit at #12 could force Carolina to move up for Barron.
If they go up to AZ's spot, KC comes into play for a CB.

the only way we trade down is if ware and merriman are both there at 11.bill is gonna take one of them so if both are there he could trade down to 15 or so and still get one.if one is gone at 11 he will pick the other one.i suspect it will be ware, and you may feel it's too high but if you want a guy you have to take him where you know you can get him and he won't fall far form 11

I am also convinced that "if" we find a dance partner, we will trade down from the #11 pick, and will more than likely, trade down from #20 as well.

no one has put their hat on what we are going to do yet, in fact, most of the mocks differ and theres still no one who really sticks out. D End is deep this year, so I wouldnt be surprised at all if we moved to 15. We may take the best player at 11 though, then move down w 20. Why not grab the best talent we can at 11. My prediction is we will take Merriman but it makes absolute sense to entertain all offers in a trade down scenario because as you state, the DE, while no superstars, there are 5-6 of them of all equal talent that can be had in a trade down scenario.
If we traded down a few spots and got some pick(s) for it and ended up with E. James I would be happy. I think I'm one of the few serious E. James fans here.
That's the guy I think has pure pass rush ability.

If we have to move down more than 5 to 7 picks then I'm not interested. I'm more interested in quality not quanity.
