Tyron Smith’s horse-collar tackle in the opener saved a touchdown.
But it cost him $15,750.
That is the fine the Cowboys left tackle received for the play that kept NY Giants linebacker Michael Boley out of the end zone.
“I was expecting it, but I didn’t know it would be that high,” Smith said.
While Smith’s agent has advised him to appeal the fine, he won’t appeal to his teammates to help him play. The Cowboys defense executed a goal line stand after Smith’s tackle that forced the Giants to settle for a field goal.
“It’s all on me,” Smith said. “I’m not going to ask.

I think these fines can end up being substantially reduced. But that's the equivalent of a retraction on page 15 of a newspaper. Smart thing to do in any case, don't think there was much of a threat of landing on the guy's legs.

That's chump change for Tyron. He probably has the much in his wallet.
;)
But, that fine was well worth it the way it turned out.

This is the minimum fine. His agent asked for an appeal b/c it costs nothing.
The only way it gets reduced is if the league decides it wasn't a horsecollar -- unlikely since Smith has said he knew it was a penalty
I do think that in practice, agents are going to tell the players to appeal everything as fines go up with each offense.

Yeah, I don't understand why he's appealing it. It was a clear horsecollar tackle and that's the minimum fine for that in the new CBA.

I bet the team will pick up that fine...

wasn't the minimum $7500?
No, it is not. Last year the league reported the minimum as 15k -- Adam today verified that it went up to $15,750 for this year
Seriously Burm, you'd look like less of a fool if you just used Google once in a while

I bet the team will pick up that fine...
They cannot without violating salary cap rules.
Teams aren't going to screw with that given what the league did to the Saints. You'd have to be the dumbest team in the world to try something like that
