What is the ceiling for Bruce Carter? Can you see a dominant LB trio of Carter, Lee, Ware by the end of the season?

Rick Gosselin: By the end of the season, no. I don't think he'll ever get to Lee's level, much less Ware. We already know Ware is a special pass rusher. I think Lee has special qualities as a playmaker and defensive team leader. I expect Carter to be functional this season as he feels his way around the NFL. He'll be better in 2013 than he is in 2012.

Way to go Goose. Instead of letting reality get in the way of your agenda, you just invent a reason to criticize one of the Cowboys.

I dont think this is too bad on Goose's part. Ware is a once in a generation type player, Lee might be one of the most instinctive defensive players we've had in a long, long while and Bruce Carter likely won't reach the heights those guys have/will. Not too bad imo. Hey, Goose did throw us the bone that Carter will be better in 2013, so we got that going for us, which is nice.

"Not as good as Sean Lee or DeMarcus Ware" ain't much of a criticism.

:laugh2: That's what I was thinking. Lee is already one of the best MLB's in the game and Ware IS the best OLB in the game. If Carter can get anywhere near Lee, this LB core will be great.

"Not as good as Sean Lee or DeMarcus Ware" ain't much of a criticism.

The question was "will the three be a dominant trio" and the answer is "Carter isn't as good as the others".

There's a bolt of lighting in every silver cloud for Gosselin.

There's a bolt of lighting in every silver cloud for Gosselin. There were two questions; neither of them is what you quote. The first was "what's Carter's ceiling?" The second was "Will they be a dominant trio THIS YEAR?" He answered them both. His answers seem perfectly reasonable - his ceiling is lower than Lee's or Ware's, and no, he won't be part of a dominant trio by the end of this year, but maybe next year. Not sure what's so controversial here.

Yeah, I'm struggling to comprehend how the Goose just slammed Carter. His statement seems pretty reasonable.

Some of us need to stop being so sensitive to every little thing.

Seems pretty fair to me. This is Carter's first season with significant time, why would he be on Lee's level, much less Ware's?

Based on.....????? Bruce Carter had 5 tackles and was ALL OVER the field against the Giants. He's going to be a BEAST.

Quit being so damn sensitive. If you honestly expect Carter to eclipse Lee or Ware or even come close to them you need to take a drug test ASAP.

I'm hardly sensitive. Goose absolutely goes out of his way to put down both Cowboys players and the organization. God forbid he say anything positive about any of the players. And I'm sure it will be a frozen day in Los Colinas were he to actually give a specific, detailed answer that wasn't some lazy, off the cuff backhanded compliment. You know he could say something like "Carter had a good game against NYG, he's <big/fast/strong> but needs to improve/show X or Y or Z to be on Lee's level".

I don't expect glowing praise regarding the Cowboys all the time, but Gosselin has an obvious agenda that gets in the way of him actually writing anything informative - something he hasn't done in about 10 years now.

I'm hardly sensitive. The evidence in this thread suggests otherwise. When every single person who responds to your OP tells you you're being too sensitive, you might want to at least consider the possibility.

Goose may be all the things you say, but this was not an example of it.

Well that's not entirely true, but even if it was, what have the Cowboys done in the last 10 years? Should he be bowing down to mediocrity?

I think Goose gets banged on to much with fans just because he doesn't drink coolaid enough for fans. But the reality is he is top draft analysis and whether you want to admit it or not he is often right about player evaluation. If Dallas GM was better at what he does - goose reports would probably be more optimistic.

Reminds me of a few posters on this board. Actually, one in particular. I'm sure it's killing him that the oline did a decent job on the Giants front four and our CB's who JJ invested so heavily in played darn good ball too.

It all seems stupid to me. Carter wins the starting job, has a solid game vs the giants. heck , i was thrilled to some making plays behind the line of scrimmage not named shawn lee. It looks like the gamble of useing the 2nd pick on injured carter is look great at this point. Who knows how good he is going to be .

Actually it was. You can't give Goose the same read that you do most other writers. I'm simply more aware of his bias than most people who don't read him regularly.

It's ridiculous. Carter isn't being hailed as an all-pro so Goose should be admonished?

Where were Ware, Carter, and Lee when Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle OL were punishing us up and down the field?
