View Full Version : Jerry Jones: Felix Jones' roster spot, role secure

Mr Cowboy

Jerry Jones remains confident in fellow former Razorback Felix Jones despite the 2008 first-round pick showing up to training camp out of shape and stumbling and fumbling through the first two games of the regular season.

Why?

"Well, just because I do," Jerry said Tuesday morning on KRLD-FM. "So I feel like we’re in good shape. But that’s it on that. Move on."

"I don’t know about that," Jerry said when asked about the possibility of replacing a kickoff returner who ranks in the bottom third of the league. "I think we saw him be quick at practice last week. I think we need to give him a little more room out there.

Did anybody actually hear the interview?

If so, could you tell if Jerry was also stomping or kicking his feet when he said this?

Moron.

As if this is the first time Jerry has undermined the coach's authority.

Yeah, its nothing like your GM/Owner being all the talk nationwide for undermining his Head Coach.....

After listening to Jerry Jones radio show I truely believe he has lost any ability he EVER had, to be a CREDIBLE GM, he believes his money entittles him to win a championship, entittles himself to say and run the show the way he wants to. Of coarse he is the owner, but it just shows the means at which a entittled OWNER believes he can say and do what he wants.....without regard for anything or anybody.....now he is about ruining his legacy as a owner.....shamefull just utterly embarrassed at the way this Team is ran and Coached.

Al Davis destroyed the great the Oakland Raiders and Jerry Jones is leading the Cowboys down the same path.... of destruction.. :(

[.....bigdog: and have been for years man. It's simple: Felix not only sucks but is out of shape. WHy on EARTH would other guys on the team not look at this and say: "Hey, if he gets away with that, well......no reason I should kill myself." And people are surprised when they go out and play like they did on Sunday? They'll have about 3-4 more performances like that this season: it's just what they do. Then they'll play real hard the rest of the time and it may or may not be good enough. Final result? RIght around 8-8 and out of the playoffs. He's poisoned his own well and he's WAY too much of a narcissist to see it or ever admit it. Congrats MR. DAVIS!:bang2:

So you think this is something he should be saying?

It isn't his call it is Coach Garrett's call, but Mr. Jones needs to feel like he matters so he butts in where he is not wanted. He creates problems for the team.

I must say that I haven't been a fan of JJ since he bought the Cowboys - yes, even when we won the Super Bowls. He's vain, pompous, arrogant, prideful, egotistical, narcissistic and greedy. He took America's Team and made it like Wall Street - profit and value growth at all cost, even if it means diluting the product. Minimum acceptable quality. A lot of shiny objects, average results as a team... but worth $2.1B.

Having said that... he is a very good businessman. And, in business, many leaders use a interrogatory style of management. It appears that is what JJ uses. Engage everyone in the dialog, hope for consensus and then make a decision if you can't get consensus.

JJ might be the one calling the specific shots for a guy like Felix, but I doubt it. It is probably a collective decision. And, probably the right one.

I would probably send a signal to the team if I were Garrett and cut Felix. But, I can see why they want to keep him. Felix does have a lot of talent, he was injured in the off season and he's been slow to respond. They should probably stick with him to mid season at least. Not to mention Salary Cap considerations.

I don't have a problem keeping him on the roster, but give his touches to someone else until he is ready. Let Harris or Claiborne return kicks and let Tanner be the primary backup.

Jerry is the sole reason why Dallas is in the shape it's in. You have fellow Cowboy fans who think he is great and think he has no flaws. He neglects the oline and dline, keeps veterans past their primes, promotes players and keep coaches (Wade Wilson) who have no business being on the team, etc.

Until Jerry changes his ways, Dallas will continue go through these issues.

I'm starting to question him as an owner now.

Well, like Dr. Pavlov, Jerry keeps ringing the bell. More importantly, his coaches can't ignore it, nor can the players.

Jone's meddling does serious damage to the team. When the team tries to buy in to what the coaches teach, and Jerry comes in and undermines that authority, it sends a bad message to the players and coaches.

Jerry just needs to be left out of the coaches business. If he ever wants to field another championship, he needs to let the coaches like Garrett do his thing.

Garrett was asked about this specifically in his most-recent presser, by the way. He implied that Jone's snaps weren't necessarily secure--including his role as a returner. (Nor should they be. He looks like a different player so far this year. I'd personally bench him until he proves he can deliver the big plays on offense, and replace him permanently on STs if I could).

Jerry gets input from his coaches and then lets us know what's going on. I don't particularly like it as I see no need for him to be front and center. He hated not doing that when Parcells was here. I don't think that undermines Garrett though. I'd rather he be quiet and give the GM job to another. Not going to happen though.

..and just how would you propose he proves he can deliver big plays on offense if he gets less than the half a carry a game he's averaged so far this year?

Garrett may have said or implied this, but then Jerry publicly states that Felix is safe and so is his role as the kick returner because he looked quick in practice last week. So what is Garrett suppose to do, what he wants or what Jerry wants.

On another note, Nate had a great quote, he said the Felix had deceptive speed, he's deceptively slow!

Crickets...Chirp...Chirp...Chirp... Isn't that the truth...

The DFW media/media and some of the fans sure don't want to acknowledge that fact, and they don't want to recall the Rams pre-season game, either. That doesn't jive with their extremely biased agendas.

Why is Felix Jones even on this team if he isn't going to carry the football? Can't Jason Garrett get someone else to be his glorified kick-returner? Can't Phillip Tanner take the bare-boned scraps in the running game?

Instead of hurting Felix Jones' career by not running him at all, Jason Garrett should show some class and loyalty and trade Felix to Detroit. Jones has delivered the goods to the Cowboys when they have handed him the football and thrown him the football and allowed him to block for the QB. Jones' real career YPC (5.2) and his 5.71 YPT backs that up. I'm sure Detroit would love to have the 25 year old running back's all around skill set, talent/ability, and low mileage.

Jones is in a horrific spot now, and Jason Garrett is hurting his career by not running him. I sure hope Jones' agent is trying like heck to get him out of jail or Dallas, right now.

It isn't his call it is Coach Garrett's call, but Mr. Jones needs to feel like he matters so he butts in where he is not wanted. He creates problems for the team.

i don't care what he says. maybe he and garrett already talked about it. the point of the matter is it doesn't matter WHAT jones says, it kicks in the same butthurt crowd to start a new thread to say the same old thing. again. and again. and again.

there's nothing left of this dead horse but people continue the flogging.

I hope Felix goes to the Lions or Falcons, and I hope he destroys the Cowboys every time he gets a shot at them.

So all the people whining about Jone's statement believe that he and JC have not discussed the Felix situation? Really? I don't buy that for a second. I think they have had decussions about it. I think has the GM, Jones wants Felix out there to try and drum up a trade partner, after all, if he has no value to us, why would anyone give us any thing of value for him. So I think there might be some of that going on, but in no shape, form or fashion do I think either one is just speaking off the cuff without knowing what the other is going to say.
