Unless it is my team I usually cheer on the underdogs. I would like to see Kansas St win ( Sooners lose and maybe WVU goes up a little in the rankings) however I think the Sooners spank the cats.

GO WILDCATS!!!!!!!
Of course, I could be a homer. :D
Actually I think they are too one dimensional on offense and hope they can just keep it close.

The Big 12 is the by far most competitive conference in 2012. OU, WVU and Kansas St. followed by TCU, UT and Baylor and Oklahoma St.
Tech and Iowa ST. can beat you if you don't show up too...only Kansas is a doormat in football, otherwise it's bruising parity.

I'll say it again, Stoops isn't that great a coach. Not nearly as good as old man Snyder, that's for sure. What a marvel he is, winning at his age with the players he gets.

That might be game! Oklahoma just doesn't have it anymore...they are declining as a program. You hear these stories from recruits and players that it's just not a happy place to be

What kind of stories? I don't keep up with this kind of stuff.
I think OU could be so much better. You almost have to recruit well there with the tradition and the proximity to Texas, so unless your coach is John Blake-bad, you're going to be pretty good. I'm not an OU fan but I hate to see them performing under their potential most years. Not sure why Stoops gets such a pass up there.

Looks like the Sooners are doing their not so fast Lee Corso impression.
ND just beat Michigan, which means they will probably vault into a top 5 ranking. :banghead:
Oh and looks like Clemson vs FSU is a barn burner right now.
Arizona vs Oregon is on ESPN and should be a good on...I have to cheer for any team facing Arizona, only because I still loath RichRod.

Jan 1, 2012 - Florida State commitment Mario Edwards, the nation's top defensive end out of Texas, apparently did not enjoy his recent visit to Oklahoma:
"Talking to some of the (current OU) players, no one had a lot of positive things to say about OU," Edwards said. "It was more, like, negative."
Additionally, Edwards said, he wasn't thrilled with the "vibe" of Norman.
"It was a real small town with really no social life there," he said. "After football season, you want to be somewhere you can socialize and all that stuff." - ESPiN Insider ($) (http://insider.espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/football/story/_/id/7407577/mario-edwards-other-ua-all-americans-arrive-florida)
Oklahoma has had a lot of transfers lately, and apparently Edwards got mixed in with some of the malcontents (http://www.sbnation.com/2011/12/31/2672972/oklahoma-receiver-dejuan-millers-dad-regrets-probably-opening-a).
It just seems like there is something wrong with the team culture/environment over there, similar to what plagues the Cowboys.

Agreed. I'm not a Sooner fan either, I'm a PAC12 guy.
I think a bigger problem than Stoops is their gimicky offense. If you're going to run an offense like their's you have to have a signal caller who can make quick, smart decisions. That's not Landry Jones.
Landry Jones is a walking accident.
Another problem I noticed tonight as well as in some other Sooner game is that their offensive style gases their own defense.
K. State would hold the ball 10 plays and 6 minutes, then when the Sooners got the ball back they'd have a quick 3 and out and less than a minutes run off the clock. So a tired defense has to go back out there.

I think Jones may regret not going to the NFL draft in April, he was a lock for the first round, now I don't know.

I remember there were a lot of Sooner fans who were upset he came back.
Regarding his draft stock, I was on the draftcountdown.com website yesterday just taking an early look at some positions of need for the Cowboys, and I noticed they still had Jones listed as a 1st round pick. WTH!
The 2013 QB class looks weak but I still wouldn't draft Jones any higher than the 4th round. Honestly I'd completely stay away from him. His problem is in his head. He's not a heady player.

Next year is not the year to draft a QB. You will likely be wasting your pick. There is no way I would spend a pick on Jones unless it was a 6th or later. He isn't an NFL QB IMO.

Well I understand your excitement for your team and by all means be happy about this loss. UTEP will be a force but I personally would like to see a few more games from them before naming them the C-USA champs today. They threw every trick in the book tonight at Oklahoma. They won't be doing that in conf. You know it and I know it. They had ZERO to lose tonight like I said earlier.
Oklahoma had issues w/ the run tonight, for sure. Am I terrified? Nope! I know the program will get it addressed. Mike Stoops will fix that line and they have FL A&M next week to get it straightened out before KS on the 22nd.
BTW: Good for Jeffrey and his running tonight. It's to bad so many UTEP kids cramped up so badly in the 3rd. Maybe they should practice in the heat sometimes and leave the French's mustard at home.
I guess they didn't get things fixed. And Kansas State didn't need to throw every trick in the book at OU.

you dont need to throw everything at them. all you have to do is put adequate pressure on Landry Jones and he will wilt......he will fall to the ground and curl up into the fetal position with tears pouring from his eyes.
Jones is the most unclutch QB OU has had in the Stoops era.

For those w/o the 4th grade attitude, yes Oklahoma has serious problems at QB and OL.
But oh pray you beat the Sooners this year.

Can Oklahoma get to play Texas yet? What am I supposed to do as a fan since all the horn fans are so anti-Oklahoma?
Am I just to lay down joe and give up? Would that make you feel any better?
Oklahoma has OL problems and a QB that has serious confidence issues because of pressure.
Still I tune in hoping it gets fixed. Call me crazy! See you next Saturday though.

At least you lost to a good, respectable and ranked team.
Losing sucks but it sucks even more when you lose against a crappy team that you have no business losing to... and that happens in football.

I'm not a Texas fan. I'm a college football fan. Actually more of an NFL fan, but I enjoy the college game as well. I went to A&M and know they are not a national contender. :D
I never bought into OU being a contender for the national championship this year. I figured the best shot the Big 12 had this season would be from newcomer WVU. And I'm still not sure about them.

I am still concerned with them competing in the Big 12 week to week.

i might be a blind homer, but i think we have by far the best defense in the conference. if we can get some good play out of ash, i think we could be in the title conversation come thanksgiving, before we end with TCU and K State. Man, the big 12 is TOUGH! only breaks teams get is on bye weeks and Kansas week :D

Texas has the potential to have a lockdown defense....just one flaw, they dont tackle well. If they could shore up this issue, the sky is the limit for the D.
Ash has improved a lot.....but he still holds onto the ball too long and tends to underthrow his WR. If he would release a half second or second sooner, the WR could run under the ball and take it to the house. I hope in the bye week he was able to work on this.
However, the biggest issue I see with the Horns, our FG kicker absolutely sucks. I miss Justin Tucker in the worst way. I have zero confidence that the kid can make a PAT chip shot, much less a 40-50 yarder with the game on the line. Texas better hope that the game doesn't come down to his leg.....if so, a loss is the most likely scenario.

OSU has a very high octane offense. They will be very tough to slow down. However, even in years past, the Horns have found a way to beat OSU and their high octane offense. Only the last few years have the Horns struggled. OSU doesnt exactly have a good defense. I anticipate Texas trying to run the ball and control the clock.....keep their D fresh, and keep the OSU offense off the field as much as possible.

Since the formation of the Big 12, only one conference opponent has owned Texas....KSU. Texas and OU are basically a wash. Texas has owned every other opponent in the conference. I don't know how or why, but KSU simply has the Horns' number.

I think Prince went undefeated against the Horns too.
I think Stoops has gotten stale and Oklahoma and it's probably long since been time for a chance. Hope we got 6-6 so we can finally start that change process and get someone in that can actually do the job at Oklahoma. I still love my Sooners but my expectations this year were extremely low because of how bad the coaching as been. It's like they don't even game plan or have schemes anymore.
ABQCOWBOY
09-25-2012, 02:31 PM
I don't really think that Stoops has gotten stale, per say. I think that what we are seeing at OU, and really at Texas, over the last few years is the emergence of other programs in Texas. For years, talent in Texas either landed in Austin or Norman. Now, we see programs like TCU, Baylor, Tech, OSU and others getting talent that in past year they never really got. That impacts OU. The other thing I think we are seeing is the reliance Stoops' program has on quality QBs. Landry is OK but he is not superior with regards to OU's hurry up offensive approach. He is simply not as well suited to that style of offense as have been some of his predecessors. Texas is struggling with the same issue in that they missed on Gilbert. However, they are not as tied to QB success as is Stoops. I have believed for a very long time that if you could stop OU on first down, you could beat them consistently. It's because once that hurry up gets rolling, it limits your ability to change personnel groupings and it wears down your defense. If you stop them, you can beat them because then you have all options open to you on defense. It also means you are probably having success on offense because your seeing more opportunities to score.
Just my opinion.

Both Stoops and Mack Brown are tremendous recruiters, assets for that alone, but they are seldom the best coached football teams. Both schools have skated by on pure talent and depth for many seasons.

OSU hasn't really recruited all that well in Texas. Their best players in Texas were like Bobby Reid and Dez Bryant, and a couple others a few years back that didn't really pan out. Blackmon wasn't recruited by anyone really, and Weeden was playing MLB. I think they were about middle of the road in recruiting in the conference the last few years. I'm not sure how good TCU's recruiting has been in recent years. OU and Texas have pretty much had top 5 top 10 national recruiting classes all of the last decade. OU's problems are the scheme on offense makes no sense with the talent on the field. And the defense is much the same. They have small LBs and small DLinemen trying to play like they are bigger at both. I think OU probably has the best DBs in college football right now and all of them will make good pros. LBs are all DB sized except slower. I think King is a pretty good DEnd. The rest of the linemen shouldn't be playing at an Oklahoma. But OU puts out a lot of 3 men line and a lot of nickel and dime formations that make no sense for the talent that OU has on the field because the front 7 is already too small.
