(CNN) -- The nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's class of 2013 have been announced, and for the first time ever fans will get a say in who will be inducted.
First-time nominees Rush, Deep Purple, N.W.A., Public Enemy, Albert King, The Marvelettes and Procol Harum join previously nominated acts Chic, Heart, Donna Summer, Kraftwerk, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Randy Newman, Paul Butterfield Blues Band and The Meters.
Watch a video of this year's nominees
To be eligible for a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination, artists must have released their work at least 25 years prior to appearing on the ballot. That means this year's hopefuls released their first single in 1987 or earlier. Blues guitarist Albert King has been eligible since 1987, while 2013 marks the first year the seminal hip-hop acts N.W.A. and Public Enemy are eligible.
From today through December 5, fans can vote at several sites including Rockhall.com to boost their favorite artists' chances of making the cut. The top five acts selected by those votes will become part of a special "fans' ballot" that will be counted alongside the international voting body of more than 600 artists, historians and industry members.

They said on the radio that KISS had never been nominated. Same with Stevie Ray Vaughan. The fix is in.

I'll go with Deep Purple, Rush, Albert King (can't believe he's not in already), Procol Harum, Heart (not a fan, but they deserve it), and The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Butterfield played the harmonica so hard that he kept a spittoon on stage to turn around and spit blood in.

I don't think NWA gets in until Dre and Cube are eligible as solo artists.

Isnt the RRHOF ran by the same people that run Rolling Stone mag? If so that would explain why they are a joke.
MOST of the legendary/greats are already in so they have resorted to acts that are middle tier or have nothing to do with R&R.
I can see it now.....
The RRHOF inductees for 2025 are...
Mumford and Sons
Black Keys
Nickleback
Soulja Boy
Nicki Minaj
What a joke............:laugh2:

I'm 25 & I think today's music sucks!
Thank goodness my father introduced me to some of the classic bands.
I envy people that grew up when music was really great!

Rock and Roll HOF my ***. With what they let in I don't know why actual Rock and Roll bands would want to be in there.

I'm still stuck in the 80s and 90s music with some pinches of 70s. 60s if you include Jimi.

This list tells me everything I need to know. Not much of a HOF.
A long time ago I used to like NWA and Public Enemy. However they belong nowhere near the Rock n Roll HOF. Enough with this PC crap, Rock n Roll HOF should be for actual Rock n Roll.

THis is a complete load of crap. THe first ever class consisted of James Brown, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino and the second class of THe Coasters, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Hank Williams, and Jackie Wilson. None of those artists are rock and roll artists. There are non performers and performers of other music genres in the HOF. The problem is the silly name of Rock and Roll HOF makes people like you think the only people that should be inducted is rock and roll artists when that clearly has never been the case. Like another poster side just rename it to the Music Hall of Fame or something along those lines. I'm so sick of this stupid argument that only Rock and Roll artists should be in this HOF. It's not true at all.

yep, rename this one and then build an actual Rock and Roll HOF.

I gotta admit I don't get the "R&R HOF" induction criteria.
For example there's no Neil Sedaka who sang songs that were #1 hits and who wrote #1 hits for others.
Why isn't he in the HOF?
