No surprise here.

New Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, whose takeover of the team was officially approved Tuesday, will name Joe Banner the team's CEO/president and current president Mike Holmgren will depart the organization within 24 hours, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder.

I think Holmgren is terrible as a personnel guy.

I'm guessing he will retire? Seems like he was about to when he took the GM job there.

I think Holmgren is terrible as a personnel guy.

Yep, once he moved up from just being a coach, his performance suffered a bunch. And just look at his Seattle drafts for some serious disappointment.

But hey, he was a real football guy....;)

Jerry is said to like him. Wonder if he minds punching a time clock.

New Cleveland Browns (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/cleveland-browns/67042) owner Jimmy Haslam isn't wasting time rebuilding his moribund franchise.

Shortly after his takeover was officially approved by NFL owners on Tuesday, Haslam will remove current team president Mike Holmgren and replace him with former Eagles CEO Joe Banner.

Haslam confirmed in a Tuesday news conference that Holmgren will leave the Browns organization at the end of the season and will retire.

"We are going to bring in Joe Banner," said Haslam, adding that Holmgren and Banner would work together on the transition. "Joe will be the CEO of the team, and that will be effective on Oct. 25.

"He will be in charge of the daily operations of the organization. Football will report to Joe. We will be heavily involved."

Haslam was asked whether he tried to talk Holmgren from an ourtright retirement from the Browns' organization.

"Mike had exactly in his mind what he wants to do, what he wants to do with the rest of his life," said Haslam, who confirmed the talks to replace Holmgren had been ongoing for some time but ramped up Sunday night as the move was being finalized within the organization.

I think drafting a 28yr old soon to be 29yr old in the 1st rd, was the final nail.

Screwing up and not making the trade to get RG3 when he had all that ammo is where he really screwed up.

Seriously, all he got out of that Julio Jones trade with Atlanta was Brandon Weeden? :lmao2:

Holgrem has been a terrible GM wasting the #7 pick on Korin Robinson when everyone with a brain new he was a bust waiting to happen because of all the red flags.

Then he has been terrible at Cleveland

Now if you are talking about as a consultant to give advice to Jason great or as a Football Operations guy great but anything to do with picking players pass the guy sucked. You ***** about Jerry's picks while Holgrem has been bad or worse than Jerry

Got to the Superbowl three times as a coach, won one of them, lost one of them, and got screwed out of one of them.

I don't agree that he is over-rated.

The OP was referring to Holmgren as a "personnel guy" and so was I. He is awful at best.

Holmgren as coach I would love to see

As GM he might be one of the few like Matt Millen that make Jerruh look really good

This.

He's proven to be a great coach. He's also proven to be a miserable personnel guy.

105.3 the fan reporting that Holmgren and JJ have always liked each other and have mutual admiration. They think he could end up here because of that.

Take it for what it's worth.

Personally I don't see it happening.

That's how I feel. I will forever blame Holmgren for not getting RG3 when he had every advantage, and if I was the owner I would undoubtably fire him.

They were offered a deal they couldn't refuse. RGIII in Cleveland wouldn't be the same RGIII in Wash. Wash has a much better team around him than Cleveland does.

While I do agree, one thing about the NFL is, if you don't have a franchise QB, you are either treading water or sinking. RG3 was a chance for Cleveland to make a huge move in a positive direction and they didn't and will be treading water for the for seeable future unless another franchise QB falls in their lap.

And CLE was pretty hesitant about giving up too much to get RG3, if they wanted him as much as washington, they easily coul've beaten their offer because no matter what the 4th pick > the 6th pick (not to mention they picked before washington in round 2 as well). The rest was just details to be worked out.

He'd make an interesting consultant in Dallas. The kind of guy Jason could definitely learn things from. I could see something being worked out on an interim basis, and I'd be all for it.

I hope Holmgren doesn't mind punching a time clock.

I'm underwhelmed by Holmgren, but maybe they could hire him to be "game time clock management quality control specialist". :)

As a personnel guy he is pretty bad. But he is a great coach. Plus from what I understand Holmgren and Jerry Jones are friends. Bring him in as a consultant to help bring along the coaching staff.

You don't need his West Coast Offense expertise, just his knowledge of the game, what to do in certain situations, offense strategy and philosophies. Plus Holmgren coached Brett Favre, and whether we want to admit it or not, Romo's game is similar to Brett's.

As long as Holmgren stays away from the draft room and personnel suggestions, I see no problems with him being a consultant here.

I don't think Holmgren would mind that at all.

But I think a huge opportunity was missed when Dan Reeves would not come here because of that. Jason could have learned a lot from him.
