I aplogize in advance because I know that this horse has been beaten to death, but what do you guys think about these three? I have Comcast On-Demand and I watched profiles for each of these guys... other than that, I saw Merriman (as I live in DC) and Spears (LSU seems to play on every ESPN Saturday night game) play a few times. It seems Spears would be really solid as a 3-4 DE.... if I remember correctly he had 9 sacks in 2004 against solid competition. Merriman seems more explosive and much faster, but seems better suited as a 4-3 DE or 3-4 LB. Based on the few things I've seen on Ware he scares me somewhat because he seems fast but pretty undersized. Thoughts?

Another thing about Spears.
The other day I read where Jason Taylor, DE with the Dolphins was saying that with Saban's defensive system... his chances to make sacks would be lowered because of his responsibilities.
If that's the case... perhaps Spears simply wasn't given free reign to just tee off on the QB and had to check for other things first in his progression. Had he been playing at another school he might have had double digit sacks.
Just a thought...

Reading the posts and all the information.
Could Merriman be something like Jevone Kurse. :iggles: :iggles: :iggles: :iggles: :iggles: :iggles: :iggles: :iggles:

Hmmmm.........
Was Zimmer helping Saban coach?
I still beleive Spears would be the solid choice. Big men with his athleticism are harder to come by than the Hybreds.
My opinion.

I agree... LSU and Georgia have big time programs. Maybe a combination of Spears and Pollack could work. That would be an instant upgrade and provide a much needed pass rush.
Please, no Pollack. He will be a bust.
We already have a Spears in Ellis. We need a speed rusher (a la Taylor, or Haley).
The trend is to go for the light, quick guys coming off the edge. This is why I would like Ware over Merriman.

the closer we get the more i think it will be spears at 11.i had spears at 11 and ware at 20 in my earlier mock but i don't think now ware will fall that far.but the thinking is there are a few tweeners in this draft, there's only one 300lb de
