The US went to Defcon-2 for the 1st and only time since.

The next day, "Black Saturday" we were literally a rash decision away by one of four Soviet submarines, each armed with 1 nuclear-tipped torpedo and authorized but not in communication with their commanders, to use these if they were "hulled", (a hole in the hull from depth charges or surface fire) from what undoubtedly would have started thermonuclear Armageddon.

Discovery, NatGeo, The History and The Military Channels, have all had some great programing on the historic events of these few days. I encourage you to watch.

I read only yesterday that things could get real "interesting" around the Iran area during the spring of next year.
