that seems like a long way to drop.

This is a deep draft for mediocre RB's. They get an additional 2nd and 5th this year and a 1st next year. I think it was a good trade

tough call, but a 2nd this year and a 1st next year...that's hard to turn down.

we can probably trade up...but i think we're high on tatum bell and julius jones who would both be there in the 2nd.

Maybe because no RB has been taken thus far, we moved down.

Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? We had the highest rated RB in the draft? Are we waiting to win next year?

Maybe we trade up to get back in the first round, I'm hoping anyway.

Why not take the best overall "complete back" ?

I think that was the key.

Yes, that's probably the reason why.

You guys keep posting about how we picked up a first next year...we GAVE up our first this year for that first next year...

we got a second...and a fifth...and how many fifth rounders even MAKE it in the NFL?

So, we gave up a shot at the best rated running back in the draft....which happens to be our strongest need position for a second rounder...and probably a special teams guy.

Lousy trade.

It's a little disappointing as we sit here now with no player yet. But I think this is the best move in the long run.

I'm surprised at this trade. it looked good at first but 21 positions is alot to drop down particularily when RB was such a big need

as a philly fan i am glad you didn't take jackson but nobody else has yet so anything is possible

That could be a Top 10 pick. You get a top 10 pick, a 2nd round pick and a 5th round pick for the #22 pick, its hard to turn that down.

I think G.Jones has always been on the top of our RB board.

That first rounder from Buffalo may well be huge by next year, they are still playing in the AFC East. They may well be in the grip of a QB controversy by midseason. I don't know how great their D will continue to be. They are also in the middle of a coaching change, with a first time head coach. I have already posted to the effect that I think Evans is a HUGE risk. He may well not make it all season. I think we may well have traded for at least a top 15 pick.

So in value, we for our 1st, we get two 2nd's and a fifth (next year's first = this years 2nd)? Is that a good deal?

I think it is a good move. Everyone should forget the hype of the draft gurus on players. There are plenty of good RB's left and now Dallas can concentrate on both BPA and need by getting some extra picks. :p

I'm kinda straddlin' the fence on this one. On one hand, I really wanted S. Jackson....... But I also see the value in this trade.

I believe Parcells coveted Wilfork, and when he was selected, decided to pull the trigger on this trade.

So if that's the case, we lost out on Wilfork, and were planning on a 2nd round RB anyway.

Groooooaannn......my ulcer!!

This is a great trade... Once you get to the 20s of the first round, the quality of player differs little right on through the 2nd round. Look at any draft and this will be proven true.

Look at how many teams needing RBs passed on Jackson -- they said Tampa would take him. No. They said Philly traded up for him. No. They said Denver wanted him. No.

All these teams saw the same thing Dallas did -- there is very little separating Jackson from Jones, Jones, Perry or Turner. Dallas will still get very comparable quality AND set outselves up for next year with two 1st rounders.

Now look at Buffalo. In the same division with the Patriots, Dolphins and Colts -- they looked pretty bad last year after a hot start. I am salivating at the possibility they fall off the charts and go 5-11.

Great trade.

You can still get GREAT talent in the 20s look at the players selected in the draft in the 20s Wilfork and Jackson two great picks

Of course you can get great players at any time. I am just saying once you get to the 20s of the 1st round, there is little of any difference in value until you get at least midway through the second round.

So in reality, trading back 20 spots sounds like a lot, but it isn't. Trading away a "1st round pick" sounds bad, but it isn't. The key was staying in the front half of the 2nd round. We'll get a player of very comparable value. Plus, we get an unknown 1st round pick next year, that could be a top 5 pick. Or it could be another No. 22 pick.

Logic indicates we can't really do worse with this trade (unless Jackson plays waaay over his projection), but we have the ability to come out of it much, much better.

Take a look at the 1999 draft (which I selected at random): Picks 20-31 were particularly terrible that year (McGrew, King, Shelton, Ekuban, Underwood, Katzenmoyer, Edwards, Gibson, Bryant etc.). Winfield, Kerney and Wilson were the only decent picks out of the 12.

However, the top 10 picks in the 2nd round included Dre Bly, Kevin Johnson, Mike Peterson, Jon Jansen and Mike Rucker.

I think you'll find the same thing in any year.

you silly gooses

good value doesn't grow on trees

plus, Jackson's hair looks a little too Ricky Williamsish to me
