Irving _ In a perfect example of the leadership and attitude the Cowboys will miss on the field, linebacker Sean Lee talked to the media Thursday for the first time since it was revealed he must undergo season-ending toe surgery and was placed on injured reserve.

Lee _ the team leader in tackles and the quarterback of the defense, who was arguably en route to a Pro Bowl season _ is disappointed but doesn’t feel sorry for himself.
He says he will be back better than ever next season but in the interim will help his teammates as much as he can and believes they can still improve and have a successful season without him.

"It was frustrating because you want to be out there," Lee said. "You want to play, you put a lot of work in and I love playing with the team, my teammates and love playing on Sunday for the Dallas Cowboys. It’s one of those things. It’s part of the game. You have to be positive because if you’re negative you’re not going to get any better. My view is you’ve got to take the next step and that’s just working on getting better."

You gotta love this guy!! He won't be on the field, but I bet a dollar to a donut that he'll be on the sidelines as much as he can be, crutches or not, and be an additional coach for the defense. Either that, or "upstairs", providing imput to the folks on the sidelines. He's a true gem.

I feel really bad for Sean. He's such a great guy and obviously great player as well. He's got an incredible work ethic and I have no doubt he'll be even better next season. I just love the fact that he loves the game of football and does whatever it takes to win. I know for a fact he'll be our biggest cheerleader on the sidelines. Keep your head up Sean. :starspin

I hope he goes up in the booth and relays info to rob, he was basically another coach when he was injured at PSU and should be the same here.

I love me some Sean Lee, but the verdict's out on this guy. Can't be relied upon to finish a full season.

We need to go another direction at ILB.

Let's NOT draft another injured rookie who had 1st round grades in the 2nd round. How about someone who ISN'T hurt?

Lee's a monster, but he can't help us on the sideline.

This has no current basis in fact. Omitting the first season which was basically written off for Carter and Lee, how many games has Lee missed to date or if you prefer how many will he have missed in his two seasons (granting you this season of missed games which I see as fair)?

To answer the question, he missed one game last year and none so far this year. This injury will make him miss the next 9 games this year but that's one injury not multiple or recurrent injuries causing him to be in and out of the lineup. If you want to say he will have missed 10 games out of 32 then you would have a case if it were multiple injuries. You can basically dismiss the one game last year as 15/16 games is pretty good for a NFL player. You want to ding him for one severe injury in two seasons go ahead. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

If he has differing injuries over the next few years that cause him to miss significant time on the field then I'll agree with you. You just can't make that case now.

Lee was also injured every year he played on the College level.

I'm starting to feel the same way about Murray as well... As Parcells and Jimmy Johnson would say what good is a player if he can't stay on the field.
