______
Working to fill another area of need before the draft, the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday reached a contract agreement with unrestricted free agent cornerback Andre Dyson, ESPN.com has learned.
The fourth-year veteran, who had played his entire career with the Tennessee Titans, was one of the last few quality players remaining in the free agent pool. He will sign a five-year, $17.5 million deal that includes a signing bonus of $3 million and a total of about $6 million in guarantees.
______
This seems like a much better bargain than we got in Henry (5 years for $25 million with $10 million to sign) for a player many think may be the better CB. They came out in the same draft class, with Dyson a 2nd rounder and Henry a 4th. While Henry clocks a pedestrian 4.55, Dyson ran in the low 4.3s coming out of college. Dyson has posted 16 interceptions to Henry's 17, with 6 from Dyson to 4 from Henry last year. However, when it came down to it, I would surmise that Henry's size (6-0 3/4) compared to Dyson's (5-10) as well as the familiarity with Todd Bowles made Henry more appealing in a division featuring T.O. and Plaxico Burress (although I realize that signing had not occurred when the Cowboys signed Henry).
Dyson's month and a half floundering period in free agency begs the question of what NFL scouting departments see or don't see in the player. In any event, grading a free agent signing on the day it occurs is about as useful as grading a draft on the day it occurs. The Seahawks seem to have found a good deal here, but time will tell.
