Carter isn't even the biggerst bust in COWBOYS history.

Aundray Bruce is the biggest bust in NFL history, IMO.

I would say Mandarich for two reasons:

1. Many thought he should have gone #1 to us and we were chastised because of it.

2. He was thought to be the greatest OL to ever enter the draft and stunk.

Some others like Emtman were caught with the injury bug so I let them slide, but Mandarich had no excuse.

Gotta say Ryan Leaf. All of the hype, all of the potential, all of the money and he stunk it up real bad.

Ryan Leaf, 7 years ago we were ACTUALLY arguing if he or Manning would be better. :banghead:

I'd say Mandarich, because instead of him GB could have had Derrick Thomas, Deion Sanders, Broderick Thomas, Barry Sanders or Andre Rison.

And just think - Lou Holtz was trying to convince Jimmy to take Mandarich and focus the offense on Hershel running behind him all game. Thank God Jimmy didn't take his advice

No question about it - Jerry Jones. Oh, you probably meant players; never mind.

Actually he wheels and deals pretty good, but like a dog catching a car, he doesn't know what to do with it.

The Top Ten in my Memory

1) Two factors make Ryan Leaf #2 overall in 1998 the biggest bust in my memory. Factor 1- Beathard forever tarnished his previously excellent GM legacy by trading #3 overall, 1999 1st rounder, 1998 2nd rounder, and Eric Metcalf to move into position to draft Leaf. Factor 2- Beathard had Leaf and Manning psychologically tested by a respected sports psychologist. The tester believed Manning was a superstar in the making an Leaf should not even be drafted. After hearing this, Beathard drafted him anyway to save face for trading all those picks.

1a) Tony Mandarich #2 overall in 1989. The Pack could have had Barry Sanders, Deion Sanders, or Derrick Thomas. All three are likely Hall of Famers. Enough said.

3) Aundray Bruce #1 in 1988. Atlanta could have had their pick of Neil Smith, Keith Jackson, Michael Irvin, Tim Brown, Sterling Sharpe, or even Ken Harvey. So many quality players were in that draft well into the second round-- but even then the Falcons took Marcus Cotton when Chris Spielman was still available (and taken with the very next pick).

4) Rick Mirer #2 in 1993. El Stinko. People liked him because he not only came from Notre Dame but he also superficially resembled Joe Montana. Horrible, horrible player.

5) Ki-Jana Carter #1 in 1995. Never rushed for over 500 yards in what's going on an eight year career.

6) Courtney Brown #1 in 2000. OMG. His PSU teammate Lavar Arrington is starting to look that way to. Stay tuned.

7) Steve Emtman #1 in 1992. He made plays during his short career, only he got hurt and then sucked. At least Quentin Coryatt at #2 overall was a tackling machine.

8) Tim Couch #1 in 1995. Gag on a turd. The guy is out of the league and still thinks he's the sh**. The Browns could have had Donovan McNabb, Daunte Culpepper, or even Edge James, Ricky Williams, or Champ Bailey.

9) Picks 3-7 of the 1987 draft. Alonzo Highsmith, Brent Fullwood, Mike Junkin, Kelly Stouffer, and Reggie Rogers. I've never witnessed such collective GM choking. Cleveland actually traded up to get Mike Junkin at #5 with Shane Conlan still available. Wow.

10) Kenneth Sims #1 overall in 1982.
Bo Jackson being drafted by Tampa Bay #1 overall only to not eve nconsider signing with the team deserves honorable mention. The only thing that keeps this from being at the top of the list is that 1) He was the right pick and 2) Tampa did not lose more than the pick itself in taking him.

Geeze, the 80s for Dallas were some of the uggggggliest drafts I have ever seen and that includes Jerry's attempts to draft CBs and D linemen. The only picks I liked were Troy, Mike, Danny White whom I still think was a good QB and a better punter. Hershel was a good one when he was actually drafted to the NFL. Other than that my mind generally skips all the players taken in the 80s and goes from the 70s boys to the mid 90s boys. Manster once had a great post on the worst of the 80s taking all the picks through all the drafts in that decade. That may be why I have no memory of 84 or 86.

The Horror!

It has to be Mandarich.

1. If you can believe this, Mandarich was so hyped that he made the All Madden team when he was still in college.

2. GB passed on Deion, Barry Sanders, and Derrick Thomas to get him.

3. Some people said that a f***ing offensive guard (Mandarich) should be taken ahead of the highest rated player in any draft since Elway was taken 6 years earlier (Aikman)!

Ryan Leaf, 7 years ago we were ACTUALLY arguing if he or Manning would be better. :banghead:Yeah and I was one. I actually still have a standing bet with someone that Ryan Leaf will go to the Superbowl before Manning. I made that on draft day 7 years ago. I can't win but at least I can hope for a tie. ;)

I never understood why Leaf was considered in the same league as Manning. After the college season ended, people were arguing about whether Manning was the best QB to come out of school since Aikman or whether he was better than Aikman and was he best player to come out since Elway. Then... when draft time nears people start to argue that Leaf is better. I never understood how players rise so much after the games are played. People look way to hard to find flaws and then define those players by their flaws. I'm ok with the combine process, but this stuff gets blown out of proportion.

Has anyone ever taken a look at mocks that come out in January and compaired them to mocks in mid April? Sometimes I wonder which would be better predictors of success.
