Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said he models much of his coaching practices from those he has worked with as a coach or player in the NFL. Included is former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson, who criticized Dallas for having a country-club atmosphere in its locker room on a national radio show earlier this week.

Garrett has declined to respond to Johnson’s remarks but said today that he learned the importance of urgency in the NFL from Johnson, Nick Saban and others.

“With the coaches I’ve played for and the coaches that I’ve coached for, there’s been a great sense of urgency. Coach Johnson was a part of that,” Garrett said. “I’ve been around a long time as a player and as a coach now. And the best coaches are the guys that created that environment. In any business setting, that’s what you’re trying to create. Certainly, coach Johnson was able to do that.”

I like what he is trying to do as a head coach, and what he is trying to implement, Im just not sure the message is resonating with the team. Only time will tell.

Translation: I want to be a Jimmy Johnson, but Jerry Jones won't let me.

Please. Garrett couldn't be Jimmy Johnson even if he owned the team.

Why do people think that just because a guy played for a coach, he can be just like him?

Dave Wannstedt and Butch Davis were a lot closer to Jimmy than Garrett is. They actually coached for and with him for many years. They had experience in the business. And they still were nothing like, and not nearly as good, as Jimmy.

Excellent points.

Absolutely excellent points.

But one could also counter with the people who came from The Big Tuna's coaching tree. He had some guys, like that guy in New England right now whose pretty good, who learned under him and from him who turned out pretty good.

I'm not saying Garrett could or will, and like I said I think you make excellent points, but the exact opposite of what you're saying can and does happen in the NFL.

Man this team is doomed as long as the current staff and GM is in place.
