Overview: Rogers is an unheralded athlete who provided excellent leadership for a young Tigers secondary in 2004. Called a "coach on the field" by the Auburn staff, he is known for his excellent leaping ability, finishing second on the Southeastern Conference's career-record list with forty pass deflections. A two-way player at Butler (Augusta, Ga.) High School, Rogers rushed for 1,332 yards and eleven touchdowns as a tailback and recorded 47 tackles with two interceptions as a cornerback during his senior year. As a junior, he ran for 1,224 yards and scored eleven times. The three-year starter was a Super Prep All-American, Prep Star All-Region and Atlanta Journal-Constitution "Georgia 75" pick. He was selected to play in the North-South All-Star Game and the Georgia-Florida All-Star game. Rogers also lettered in basketball, averaging 14.2 points per game from point guard position and in track, posting top times of 10.7 in the 100-meter and 21.0 in the 200-meter dashes. He attended Hargrave Academy in 2000 to improve his academics and made a big impact as a freshman in 2001 at Auburn. He was named Freshman All-American by The Sporting News that year, as he started ten contests. Rogers totaled 58 tackles (46 solos) with 12 pass deflection during the 2001 campaign. Rogers started nine times as a sophomore, tying for the team lead with four interceptions. He also collected 48 tackles (34 solos) with nine pass break-ups in 2002. The All-American and All-Southeastern Conference choice lived up to his billing as a "shutdown" cornerback, as opponents completed only 18 of 65 passes (27%) thrown into his territory. He recorded 47 tackles (37 solos) with two interceptions and ten pass deflections during his final season. In 50 games with the Tigers, Rogers started 44 times. He holds the school career-record with forty pass deflections and also intercepted seven passes. Rogers accounted for 182 tackles (134 solos) with eight stops for losses of 17 yards and two fumble recoveries.

Analysis: Positives...Well-built, strong athlete with good overall muscle tone, broad shoulders, thick chest, long, muscular arms, good bubble and a V-shaped torso...Physical and tough player who takes well to hard coaching...Showed great improvement in his play in 2004, as he no longer seemed hesitant in his reactionary skills or afraid of giving up the big play... Shows good acceleration to the ball and looks comfortable playing the wide corner position in a Cover-2 scheme, where he can sit and read underneath round and break downhill...He has exceptional timed speed, but sometimes it does not translate to the field (takes extra steps in transition)...Has adequate body control to make adjustments on the move and shows urgency getting into position to defend the ball...Has the strength to challenge and press receivers at the line of scrimmage...Shows the speed to run and recover on deep routes...Does a good job of maintaining hand placement to reroute receivers and has the change of direction agility to stay on his man's hips, even when they execute double moves...Displayed better hand usage around the line of scrimmage in 2004, getting good leverage when he utilized his hands to stack and control...More of a drag-down type of tackler, but stays low in his pads and takes better angles to the ball than he did earlier in his career.

Negatives...Showed much more confidence in his athletic ability in 2004, but in the past he would struggle in off coverage and give up too much cushion on the ball. It looked like he was hesitant to give up the big play...Has improved his work habits, but will do his "own thing" at times and needs to work in a structured environment to get the best out of his skills...Played mostly in man coverage in 2004 and had good success there, but still does not show a good feel to anticipate routes and is late on his turn when he peeks into the backfield too long...Has the speed to run with the receivers, but shuffles his feet too much through routes and lacks ideal hip snap to turn and run in transition...Can locate the receivers in front of him in zone coverage, but gets up on his heels too much...Not a fan of run support, as he gets tied up by combo blocks and gets soft when he has to face up to the offensive linemen...Lunges and leaves his feet too much when making open field tackles...The staff calls him a "coach on the field," but he has only adequate field awareness, shows stiffness in his turns, still allows too much separation and needs several reps to retain plays...His Wonderlic score and spending a season at Hargrave Academy is evidence that he is still a work in progress as far as field intelligence goes... Strictly a boom or bust type that may be better served in a Cover-2 system.
