rumored for several weeks.

In fact, Goss had Ware ranked number 12 in his top 100 board.

Clearly, BP had his CHOICE of LBs and DL at number 11, and BP felt that Ware was the player with the best pass rushing potential.

BP did NOT have to settle on Ware because another LB or DE was already chosen.

We'll just have to see how Ware pans out.

MANY of us have been sick to see a pathethic pass rush from our defense for several years now. At least we have shot at turning it around.

Absolutely. A ton of mocks projected him to Dallas. No reach.

he was a reach period, but i hope BP is as right about him as he was about DEs while he was in NY

Yet Goss had him at 12 and Ourlads Scouting had him at 13 . . . . And BP clearly prefers him as well . . . .

Mike Mayock on NFL Network has been saying the past couple of weeks that Ware was his #1 rated defensive player in this draft. Certainly not a reach.

He was most definitely NOT a reach. If we would have taken Merriman, SD would have immediately taken Ware. If we would have switched places with SD, they would have taken Ware. Ware may or may not be "the Man" but he wasn't even close to a reach. If you wanted him, you had to take him where Dallas did.

I would have been more surprised with Merriman being taken than Ware. We got the better pass rusher.

it about combo pick 11, 20 and 42.

You pick the player with the most potential and impact first. Ware and Merriman were very closely rated. It a matter of preference. We already have a strong side DE in Ellis. If we stay in 4-3, Ware project better on the weakside. Whereas, Merriman played over TE better. If we go 3-4, both would have fitted well but there are more players (less highly ranked) that can play over the strong side.

Ware pick sets up the 20th pick. It allow us to pick Spears, Pollack, Cody. These players all can play the strong side or some will fit as OLB over TE. The two picks can then complement each other.
